all right, a friend of mine is installing a 50-trim on his 1g, the way the wastegate is set-up it doesn't clear the fan. my question, would it be okay to pull out the fan (his only one) and run without them or will this just cause overheating problems?

You'll need the fan that blows onto the tranny. You don't need the A/C fan which is the one that blows onto the exhaust manifold. There are also hundreds of options for fans now.

If you have to trim the fan blade itself, something's weird. The most you should have to do is trim the fan's housing (the black plastic).

What turbo/wastegate setup did he go with that he has this problem? Sounds like a problem they have with the eBay manifolds. You can run one fan but I recommend getting a Slim-line fan or something that will pull a lot of CFM.

No fans=constant overheating

get a slim fan and mount it on the passenger side of the radiator and you won't have any problems

the other option is to take off the a/c condenser and install a slim fan in front of the radiator in case you still have clearance problems inside the engine bay. Remember, those slim fans are both push or pull fans so hook it up correctly depending on where u put it
