I did a search, and I couldn't find what I was lookign for.

I was just wondering how long you would have to keep your car running in order to cool a EvoIII 16g turbo. I don't have a turbo timer, so I usually wait like 30-60 seconds depending on hwo much of a rush I'm in.

Thanks!
Howie~

cool down time will vary based on driving time and how hard youve been working the engine. I would give it a few minutes to cool down if your not willing to get a timer to handle the cool down for you.

Well,

I'm lookign into gettign a turbo timer, but I've been researching alot beacuse aftermarket alarm systems interfer with it. That's what I'm getting from the posts I've read.

Just get a timer...I didnt really have a use for mine since my car is still mostly stock but ive found several other porpuses for hks TT:

0-60 ETs
1/4 Mile ETs
Displays RPMs and MPH, also functions as a shift light and or alarm for going over certain MPH.
Car warm-up timer for when its really cold out :)

Picked mine up used from a friend for $60 bucks...Good investment:)

I wanted to get the Viper autostart/alarm system from Best Buy. Is there an alarm w/a turbo timer built in?

HOwie~

EDIT: I guess there is... but I'm not big on buying no name branded electronics on ebay. Any other suggestions?

turbo timer super important, I've destroyed a turbo on my Porsche(abuse+no turbo timer). The overall the lifespan of your turbo depends solely on the cool down time you give it. The time varies based upon your turbo type and it's size. My fp 20g hybrid takes a 2.00 minutes after a hard run and about a minute or so for regular daily driving.

So, a good minute to 90 seconds is plenty for my 16g then?

Thanks!

I just found out that the viper has prolonged drivetime, but a TT adjusts to the turbo, doesn't it?

I have a Rattler alarm system and a blitz turbo timer . I usually run it one minute for daily driving and more depending on how hard I've been driving, up to 5 minutes or more, for my 16g. You can run both alarm and turbo timer for sure, I'm doing so right now but i just cant set my alarm until the turbo timer goes off, I can still lock my doors from the inside though (if im in a hurry). I also put my turbo timer in the little flip up thingy by the radio bezel (fits perfectly), if you want to see a picture of it let me know. Hope any of that helps. P.S.: get ready for thousands of people to tell you "your car died outside!" or "how is your car still running?????"

It depends on how you drove the car. if your not boosting and you're just driving normally, you won't need to cool it down. Think about it, how much cooler will your oil get from idleing for 90 seconds and driving on the street to get to your house; it might be cooler or higher in temp, but at such a minium. Some TT will adjust timing on the turbo, but thats usually wot and how the boost hold up and for how long. Its pretty much just common sense, if your boosting let it idle for a while if your just driving normally no real time is needed.

After normal driving there is no need to let your car sit around and Idle.

Now if you do a full boost pull straight into your Driveway then letting it sit at idle for 30-60 seconds would be a good idea.

yeah it is nice to do that and idle down the car. what you can also do is take a nice leisurely stroll around the neighborhood with your car and you shouldnt have to idle it down. People also say you dont need a TT since you have a water cooled turbo stock, but I say better safe than sorry.

That plus TTs are cheap and I also recommend the HKS it does cool stuff from auto timing how long you need to being a shift light to being able to get 0-60

water cooled turbos dont need to be timed if your not pushing your car. if you are pushing your car you should drive it easy 5 minutes before arriving at your destination, that will be the best timing you'll ever do. turbo timers are a waste of money.

I agree. Only if you are running a turbo that is oil cooled only should you really even worry about letting it cool down. A water-cooled turbo will do the cooling down part itself. Taking it easy on the car before you get to your place of sanction is the best way to "time" your turbo.

Has anyone found a way to operate an alarm with the TT? For example when the TT turns off, then alarm turns on automatically...

While we're on the topic...
I have a turbo timer that i had on my 97 420a a couple months ago. I tried to hook it up to my talon and it does not have the same pinout for my wiring harness. i thought all 2g's had the same? has anyone heard of this?

By the way, i have a cheap-o ebay turbo timer i got for 40 bucks and it works great. just a little more insurance if you ask me.

A lot of the higher end security systems have built in Turbo timers. I was doing a little bit of research, and a lot of Viper autostart/alarms have them built in, and so do some Cliffords and Scoshe. Just look around, and you'll find what you need.

I know that the higher end models, possibly even the lower end, Clifford and Viper alarms you can achieve this. However, it needs to be professionally install because it requires to be reprogrammed with a 'bitwriter'. After the car turns off the alarm will arm itself in 30 seconds. This can get annoying when you want your hood open or you and your buddys are around your for a while car because you might set off the alarm. I have the clifford matrix rsx 3.5 and I dont have it programed to arm itself in 30 seconds. What I do is set the turbo timer, walk away, and set the alarm with the lcd pager. Even after the car turns off the alarm does not unarm itself.
