I've been looking for ways to boost the power of my NT Talon. Looking around a few posts I've noticed that there was a special edition car put out in 94 that hosted ~170 hp instead of the stock 135. I've read that the only difference is that it had the turbo cams instead of the NT cams... Is this actually the only difference? Would swapping out my NT cam for a turbo cam net me an extra 35 hp? It seems a little good to be true. Let me hear some opinions on this.
Thanks

Any special edition car you've heard about is crap. They never existed and if they did a cam swap certainly wouldn't help that much. My guess, if I had to make one, would be that the cam swap wouldn't help if not hurt the car. The turbo cams are engineered for a motor that will take in a lot more air than any naturally aspirated car ever will so this might lead to decreased performance instead of increased. Just my theories though, maybe someone else will chime in with some knowledge.

yea that sounds like a loud of crap. If there really was a "special edition" I'm sure it had higher compression, a bigger throttle body, and some upgraded cams .. but NOT turbo cams. Turbo cams are for Turbo Cars.

Okay... I can answer this with actualy experience...

You can put turbo cams into a N/T for about a 6-7 hp gain at the wheels (I got 8, but this was a little higher than norm.)

If you can do the labor yourself it is a great mod (40 bucks for cams, and 6-8hp).

The Special Edition you are reffering to was produced in 1994 and was very limited. It had a rating of 167hp stock from the factoy. Slightly higher compression was used. Other than that not to many people know anything about them because no one on this board owns one (that I am aware of).

To get an extra 35hp on a N/T you would have to do some fairly extensive modifications. But the largest gain would be from getting a turbo head ported and polished with 1mm oversized valves. This would give at least 20-30whp. It is my next "stage" of modification.

Come over to the Non-Turbo Performance section of dsmtuners. We can help you out, and we wont annoy the turbo people there.

Hope this helps! :thumb:

Well I was wrong and there you have someone to help you out. See how everything works out in the end? I'm still skeptical on this special model though.

not sure about the special edition car. but i know that most of the older 1G's had 14B turbos and apparently there were a very small amount that had bigger injectors and 16G turbos. maybe the 16G w/ bigger injectors was the 'special edition' car. i wish i could remember where i read this so i could reference it.

There were no 1G's that were a special edition model and certainly none that came with 16g and larger injectors. You are thinking of some JDM GVR4's which had a small 16g and 510 injectors.
