for those of you with the dsmlink, how are you guys finding the balance between boost and timing on the streeet?

I mean you can leave the timing stock and run more boost, or run less boost and crank the timing up, basically, in both situations, pushing it until you see knock

Which method is better and how are you finding the balance?

Also, are you tuning until you see NO knock? I think the dsmlink allows you to change the boost gauge into a knock gauge right?

Well, im lookin foreward to runing my dsmlink along with my t3/04b when i get back from europe early january :thumb:

I am doing 660cc injectors with 190pump

Are you guys having different injector compensation with different fuel pumps? I wilil be runing the 660cc FIC injectors, are there any recommended global settings and deadtime comp. for these specific injectors on a 190pump?

I am in the process of getting hte link now so im not a member on the link forums yet

The general concensus is you will make more power with boost than timing. For pump gas I see that most leave timing alone and just get a good AFR at a decent boost level and then up it from there. If you are putting in a fuel pump make sure you rewire it, several people on the link forums have found that some random bits of knock go away after a rewire, I'm getting ready to do mine on my next day off. :thumb:

its already rewired, but are you saying the knock goes away because of the extra fuel a rewire provides or something else????

I assume if you can afford a dsmlink, you probabbly have a wideband, i do, so i dont just have to guess at what a pump does, i can know exactly how it affects my a/f, so it wil only take me 10 minutes to get the a/f ratio down to what i want, and then tune for knock from there i guess.

I guess that makes sense, just leave the timing stock as long as there is no knock, and then push the boost until you see knock, or at least to a safe amount( no more then 18-20 psi i assume on pump gas on a 50trim or so.

How much timing are you guys able to add with the addition of race gas? I dont want to run more then 22psi at the track(stock headgasket and all) so i wil have to go with timing from there for extra power.

Heres a tuning guide....worked great for me!!

hey i got an electrical question too

right now i have an AFC, and i had to cut the MAFS wire and run it into the afc

now with the dsmlink, the afc goes BYEBYE but should i worry about hte wire? I heard horror stories about cutting ecu wires and putting htem back together(usually guys who shorten their ecu wiring on custom cars) and they have all kinda ohm and shorting problems

SHould i just stick them back together, solder it, and heatshrink that wire? I want to do it the best way, any advice, i dont want any funky electrical problems when it comes to my ecu

The other wires i simply gator tapped into, so i can probably just wrap those parts in electrical tape, although i wish i never did the afc in the first place, LOL

When I pulled my AFC out, I just soldered the two wires back together, and haven't had any problems.

:thumb: thank you

dude, i seriously cant wait to start using it, i just downloaded the program and it looks SOOOOO easy, i dont know how to recommend it to beginners because i think its easy but it may not be to others, but it looks INCREDIBLY user friendly, the dsmlink guys sure did a great job

I am used to tuning a pectel t2 on my focus, and making maps from scratch, yet not having knock count features to monitor the engine

This is great, im so excited to get home and start tweaking it, it shouldnt take me more then 1/2 hour to get the car totally dialed in.

I love the graph feature, it just doesnt get easier, and you can graph hp, torque estimates, a/f, (which i will run off my wideband o2 sensor from my plx300 to get real wideband figures) you can graph everything....#### the afc, its goin on ebay the second i get home :D

But back on track, i have 1 more question

Once you guys dial in your global settings, do you dial those in until your WOT runs look decent, or do you control that strictly with the manual control? I mean is it ok to have your WOT fuel settings +/- 10-15%? Or should the WOT runs be close to 0 on the settings?

Meaning if your global settings are dead on, theoretically, should your WOT runs be pretty close to perfect too or are they going to be based on the stock car setting, meaning VERY rich, in the 9's af?

Im assuming the guys at dsmlink can give me baseline estimates for global injector comp and deadtime, i know deadtime varies from injector to injector even brandwise, and i wiill have FIC 660cc and 190 pump, any suggestions?

Im glad i got a wideband, tuning should be cake.
