ok ok i know that everyone says timing is power. so here's the question. running a ported big28, 550's, 6an lines, 255hp, and an s-afc. dsmlink is on the way, going to head to the dyno as soon as i put it in. for the 1st time i am going to have control over timing, do i tune for 21psi and hope for the best timing advance i can get, or do i tune for 18psi and try to bump the the timing as advanced as i can? just wondering what u guys think will benefit me more. obviously i can figure this out on the dyno myself, just tryin to predetermine a goal before i get there...thanks in advance.

Start with the boost that you want to run and then adjust timing from there. If your knocking and you have the ideal a/f ratio, then a) retard timing or b) turn down the boost. On my car, I can only run 14 (timing at -2 on the sliders) to 16 (0 adjustment) on pumpgas @21psi. I believe in the more boost vs timing school of thought. Good luck.

I would start out with getting the correct airfuel first instead of using the timing controls on dsmlink. Try shooting for 11.0-11.3:1 on pump gas if you can or try to get close to 11.0:1 until you knock then go 1% richer. After you have that set on the pre-determined boost you want then go for timing. So i would say for low boost shoot for the highest timing you can get and for high boost set timing around 15-16

awesome, thanks for ur guys help. was leaning towards boost, as i hear the big 28 does its best at around 21 psi, ill post some numbers and a graph for u guys when im all done with it...u think 16 is max timing ill be able to achieve at high boost? not doubting, just lookin for opinion

Max timing will depend on if your car knocks or not. If your one of the lucky ones then i would expect you to see 18-19 degrees of timing so try going for that

18-19 is what i was hoping for, thats my goal, but with the 550's im unsure if ill see itor not at 21psi...thanks again raven.

If you're on stock compression pistons, then 16-19 should be where your timing ends up. However, those 550's will probably be right on the edge. It would be wise to have 660's...
