alright guys here the deal. i bought a 2g with a 6 bolt swap with a 2g head and intake mani about 2 months ago and the motor had a melted piston, etc. so i had the motor rebuilt. the guy who rebuilt the motor for me called me up today and told me that the motor was really outta time. he said that he adjusted the CAS all the way down and its still about a quarter turn outta time. it wouldnt even start but now it will start just runs like shit. this is a reputable mechanic, hes done timing jobs on my 2 first gens. i mean complete timing jobs and ive never had any problems. all the timing marks were lined up, i was there whenever the motor was out and complete with the t-belt before it was to get dropped in. i really want to get this car up and running guys and im hoping that one of you can help me out here and try to solve this problem. remember 1g shortblock w/2g head and intake mani.

thanks guys ahead of time for your help.

the guy building my motor thinks that i might have to change the cams and cam gears saying that maybe the lob (sp?) on the end of the cam where the CAS goes in at could be different? i dont have a clue, im lost right now, and im really started to get pissed off. please guys help me out

My local mechanic is doing a 6 bolt swap for me, just waiting for head to get back from machine shop. I'm using back my 2g head also but am curious about what your problem is. From what I have read the cas should fit the 2g head fine. Are you using a 1g timming belt kit.

no its a timing belt for a 2g bolt. its a oem mitsu one that i got from sbr. but they are the same timing belts from 90-99.

I'm still a newbie but what I have read your supposed to use a 6 bolt timming kit on a 6 bolt block. I am not sure if that would cause a problem or not?

What does he mean it is "out of time"? Is the timing off by a couple of teeth on the timing belt, or is the ignition timing off? Did you ever solve the problem? Remember that when you do a six bolt swap, you NEED to swap the spark plug wires around to change the firing order.

no it was way off...not just a couple teeth or anything...it turned out to be a bad CAS sensor. put another one in and bingo like brand new.
