Tuning Forensics? Any thoughts on previous owner's tuning?

I bought this car about 3 months ago and added an SAFC I to it.

Before this time, I noticed that the previous owner did the following:

Bumped base timing to 10* (Isn't this generally too much?)

Set AFPR to 48 psi.

Left stock 450 injectors in place. (This is the 2nd time I have bought a modded DSM and noticed this!)

Any thoughts on what may have gone on?

I suspect tuning via egt or trap speed period.

Thanks

Man, put the fuel pressure back to normal, get the timing back to normal. Nad then start tuning it to your specifications. There's not that much "wrong" with it, just a little out of adjustment. Hopefully it should run fine then and you can start in on it without having to fix anything he may have been ttrying to "band aid" with that setup.

Also, rewire the fuel pump, no matter what one is in there. I recently learned this is a MUST on DSM's, no matter what fuel pump you're running, And i've been doing DSM's for years along with all kinds of other cars. ( mainly porsche club 944's, 968, 911 and 928's , but i've done plenty of hondas and wrx/sti's as well)

Would you set that at 37 psi or 43.5 psi? I am inclined to set it at 43.5 psi or even leave it at 48 psi. Less SAFC adjustment. (I don't know what this is doing for closed loop operation though, but I doubt it is really hurting anything).

After all we are talking stock injectors. I heard that Bushur ran 120 mph traps back on stock injectors back in the day.

Thanks

On a 1g, set it to 37 psi because that is what the ECU expects. If you set it to 43.5 psi, you would have to adjust for increased fuel pressure via the SAFC.

That sounds about right.
