Have been looking for a cheap and easy tuning option for a stock 2g talon running a t28. Heres what I have come up with.

First off, the car has hard pipes, stock smic, t28, ported o2 housing, 1g bov, rewired fuel pump. Thats it. T28 is running manifold pressure, straight from the turbo to the waste gate. Runs great! Noticeably quicker than stock.

I know it will need more fuel, and a means of controlling that. So I researched and came up with this combo.

To deliver more fuel, a 190 lph fuel pump, and a set of 510, or 560cc evo injectors.

To control it, a wide band o2 sensor, the genII MAFT, and a proper boost gauge, then I can plumb in a hallman boost controller.

Would like to keep stock fpr, and stock maf, and boost around 18-21 psi,, what ever is doable for this mild set up.

Reason for this route is to keep the tuning easy, and fairly mild. This car will never see anything bigger than its current t28, and will spend 99.9 % of its drive time just cruising and commuting. It just needs to run well, and have a bit more kick when needed. Im figuring around 280-320 hp as a goal.

I have managed to find all these parts for a good prices so cost could be as little as about 400 bucks total for pump, injectors, wide band, boost gauge, and genII maft. Some used of course.

Good plan, or recipe for disaster??

ECMLink would be awesome. Honestly I am a little biased to it, but I mean it is a great piece of software and you have most of the hardware already! You may want to double check to be sure. And you won't need a MAFT.

Stock FPR ok with 190lph.

Fuel calculations can help you figure the size injectors you need, but just get the largest you can while staying in budget (if you go ECMLink). 650s would be plenty but keep your eyes open you may be able to go even larger for less than $50. I would say EVO injectors are your minimum option but I personally see them as tiny :D

I'd say it's a pretty good list. Just make sure to tune it correctly with the MAF GENII and keep an eye on the wideband. Other than that, if you're not going bigger nor do you want to spend a lot, dsmlink would be overkill, especially if you only want a mild tune. Cheap and to the point with a limit well established, nothing seems wrong to me there :thumb: Just make sure you have the ducting for the smic, it will help getting it's max efficiency (since without it, air has too many choices to bypass the IC) and if you can, clean out the smic as well, chances are it's dirty inside and any little bit helps in these situations.

dsmlink would be overkill, especially if you only want a mild tune.

I disagree. 'Link is not only for tuning, it also doubles as a robust logging and diagnostic solution. Having a complete picture of all electrical systems at your fingertips is so useful, even if he only intends to commute/cruise. With that said, it will also provide serious advantages over a MAFT and is well worth the extra $200.

OP, get ecmlink v3 lite and don't look back...

I dont have any intentions of getting link. A. My ecu is not an eprom ecu, I checked already. B. I dont have a laptop for tuning, and C. because of a and b,, its wayyyy to expensive.

You can get v2 and an EPROM for $250 in the classifieds. I did this to keep me going and sent my other EPROM to Tom to get repaired. So now I have an extra one but I only have one data cable. PM me if you can source a data cable and you can purchase my EPROM DSMLink setup and be up and running for about the cost of your MAFT.

As far as tuning, borrow a friends laptop and tune it once. No need to mess with it after that unless you change your setup or it starts running funny. Sorry for trying to push link on you, I can say it may not be the BEST or most inexpensive option for everyone but in your case I think you would be really happy with it. Look into it a little more and then report back on what you decided to do!
