Long story short, I trusted a so-called friend, DSM expert, and DSM forum owner to assembly my latest DSM for me because I didn't have the time or space. In the end, he stole $1,000 in parts from my build for his own build, tried to strong arm me for more money, and ****ed up pretty much my entire engine and car. It's going to be a long while, but he'll get EXACTLY what he deserves for this in the end.
The car is an early '95 GSX and the engine is a '98 4G64 from a Galant with a '96 4G63 head. The current issue I'm working on fixing (ie dumping even more money into) is the oil pump.
When I picked up the car it looked like shit but drove almost perfectly fine with the new engine. I had put almost 2500 miles on it before I started poking around and taking stuff apart to double check everything. Turns out he stole all of my new timing components and put USED aftermarket garbage on instead. He also screwed me on an OEM oil pump and JNZ B-shaft eliminator kit and instead put a Topline pump on and just hacked off the rear balance shaft with a cut off wheel instead of installing my kit. My financial situation had changed a LOT between when I spent thousands on this build to when I finally got the car back a a year and a half alter and it was hacked to all hell. It's been sitting in my garage untouched since I figured out he used a bunch of garbage instead of the parts I gave him. Now I've got some cash again and I'm trying to unfawk even more of this car.
The issue with the oil pump is the sprocket and how hard it is to turn. It turns with the timing belt and doesn't skip teeth and the oil pressure is high and consistent. But when I removed the belt and turned it by hand, it's nothing like my past DSMs. I literally have to grab it with my palm and crank on it to get it to turn. Every DSM I've ever had or worked on has been easy to turn and almost spins freely, with or without balance shafts.
So I'm going to pull the case/pump assembly tomorrow before I put all new timing stuff on. Is there something I should look for that would help my determine what the problem is? Should I just replace the rear BS bearing and install the stubby shaft? Should I just replace the whole oil pump assembly with a new OEM to be safe?
Thanks for any advice.
