Trouble after timing belt change. Please help

I recently changed the timing belt on my 1995 tsi and now the car has developed a slight miss at idle and it seems the the oil pressure gauge is reading slightly higher than normal. If the belt was a little too loose would that cause the car to miss slightly at idle? I changed the plugs and wires but that didn't help. Any ideas on why the oil pressure would be slightly higher? The only reason I did the timing belt is because the water pump went out.
 
Who did the belt replacement? My first guess would be that one of the cam gears is off by a tooth, or you have bad base timing. First thing is first. Check your timing, if it is erratic than you have other problems, if it holds steady, then just make sure that it is set right.
 
I agree, you didn't get it quite right.

NO: the loose belt won't do that. However; Incorrect tension would/could however cause the belt to skip one or more teeth, which then makes the car run poorly; rough idle and lack of power.

How did you set the tensioner pulley? Did you use the special tools, and go exactly by the book per FAQ?
 
One of my friends did the belt. I guess I will just use the vfaq to fix whatever he screwed up. Thanks for the replies.
 
OK, setting the tensioner is kind of the trickiest part. So pay special attention to the details of setting the tensionser pulley per the FAQ.

That's where alot of people mess up, even some "professional" mechanics don't know how to do it right.
 
Tensioner pulley is the hardest part. YOU can buy a tool to use to fit into the "snake eyes" but i used a set of snap ring pliers that were L shaped on the end. its a good idea to have a friend help u with a 12mm open end wrench to tighten down the tenioner bolt when it is over far enough
