I just bought a 90 TSI AWD and the previous owner said the car wouldn't move. I bought the car anyways. The car will start but when I push in the clutch there is no pressure what soever behind it. Do I need to bleed the clutch or is it just a blown pressure plate? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
What happens when you release the clutch and its started, does the car move or stall?

You wouldnt have too much pressure on your clutch pedal if the pressure plate was blown so i am swaying towards that idea. Even if you needed to bleed your line the car would be able to move. For example try starting your car up in 1st without the clutch in, it should move.

No it wont move an inch at all. It might as well be in neutral.
 
Just an idea, but something could have broken loose on your clutch actuator. If the clutch pedal is just swinging there and takes no effort it's possible. One car i owned broke a clutch fork which holds the clutch line to the transmission so it wasn't engaging/disengaging the clutch. It felt the same way, no pressure at all. Here's a picture of the actuator, it's on the bottom frontside of the transmission. In the picture the clutch is engaged, if it was disengaged it would be sticking out real far and the rubber boot would be stretched to it's max. Possibly have someone press/depress the clutch in the car while you watch it. Also if it moves when you press/depress the clutch, pull the square rubber boot back and make sure the actuator is attached inside the transmission.

but if the clutch fork was broken the clutch would be stuck engaged. So it should be able to move if he started the car in gear
 
Yeah I can sit in the car with it on or off and move the stick through all of the gears.
 
Pardon me, but it wouldn't have to be stuck in engaged. You can engage and disengage the actuator with your fingers. Just test it to rule it out, takes 5 seconds to see if it's extended or not. Do you understand how it works exactly?

One more thing, can you hear the clutch spinning? On most cars when the clutch is engaged it's pretty obvious to hear.
 
no i can't hear the clutch spinning there is no change in sound at all. Its like its in neutral all the time. I will try checking the fork by hand tonight though.

You're right to be engaged it wouldn't be in its "natural" position but still explain how it could get "stuck" in the disengaged position?
