1G Transmission rebuild whining

Well I finished rebuilding my transmission in my early 1990 Talon and took it out for a drive and it was making a sound from the transmission like it had straight cut gears or something no matter what gear you were in and it got worse as you went faster.

I took 2 trips of about 2 miles and looked underneath for any leaks after each trip and didn't find any leaks. Then I took it out this morning and went the same 2 mile loop and loked under neather and found a hole in the back cover of the trans. Does anybody have any idea of what it could be???

I have to take it apart either way, but just want to get an idea of what's going on. I probably shouldn't have driven it after hearing that sound, but its too late now.

FInd out what made the hole. What do you mean back cover of the trans? The back? Most holes I see were caused when a foreign object made it's way to the front differential. I'm sure you noticed the clearance there is tight between the gear and the case. Take it apart. I have some cases.

The hole is a little to the left of the drain plug about the size of a nickel. Any idea what would cause a hole up there because there is just the 5th gears. I did replace one of the 5th gears. Would it be a bearing that makes that straight cut gear noise all the time while moving? When I drove it, it shifted very smooth except reverse was a little tough. I'll let you know if I need a case its an EARLY 1990 AWD Transmission.
