Hey guys and gals! I have a 97 GSX, which before i ripped it all apart for a rebuild, i was driving along, and i had to get on the throttle to avoid a collision, and something in the driveline "Popped" , now it feels as if the clutch is slipping. The car still speeds up, but no where near the way it used to. The speedometer goes as normal, i can do 20 mph sitting in my driveway:hellyeah::hellyeah:, so i know the clutch is fine.It did "kinda" pop back into place, but getting on the gas again soon produced a POP and nearly no go again. I have checked both front CV's, and the half shaft, they all look fine as far as splines, and drive parts go.
The splines on the differential look good, and i ripped into the Transfer case, it is fine as well.
Upon tearing into the trans tonight, i couldnt get the damn case apart, but i did get the end cover off. the gear in the center, had alot of side to side play, but everything has always, and still does shift perfectly I have not yet checked the rear driveline, or rear end parts at all yet. The thing on the inside of that end cover, on the transfer case output shaft, looks to be like a LSD?? it doesnt look hurt at all, but i have no way to get into it to tell. So before i go nuts, and buy a whole new trans, is this a common problem? Is it easily fixable?? What do i do? hehe. Lots of questions, but ill learn one day.

Thanks for the help guys, i really need to figure this out!

wow no one has repled to this? from the sound of it sounds like there is somthing broke inside the tranny. if one of the tranny guys would read this im sure he would have more info then me.

Would say if it was just a pop sound when first accelerating it sounds like a motor mount. It well pop on take off and slightly pop on slow downs, but that should have nothing to do with speed.

sounds like you could have broken the input shaft. That or the splines on it are striped. Its inside the tranny for sure.
