Hey guys, so right before I put my car away from winter I was cruising near my house on top of second gear WOT right before I was getting ready to shift I felt something pop...no gears what so ever. I was lucky enough to coast down the hill to my house. I was planning on replacing the transmission but then I was thinking could it possibly be the clutch?? I still have a pedal but I can put the tranny into gear w.o using the clutch (no grinds) then it just makes a clanking noise, I just figured it was the front diff that was blown up. I took all the fluid out of the tranny, didnt see anything bad and no shavings on the plug. I did just put in a clutchnet 6 puck a month or so sooner so I didnt even think it could be this. What does everyone think? I know I just need to pull it but Im away from home at school pondering my problems...

Nice car, To start with.. (I'm on your myspace, The guy with all the dsms).

It could be a few problems. Did you torque the clutch/flywheel to spec when you installed them? If not, The bolts could have backed out, Just leaving your pressure plate ''sitting there''.

Did you check your shifter cables? you could have stretched the cables/broke the cables, Or have had them disconnect, Also.

I PM'ed with a few ideas as well, including the more likely failure of the clutch disk by either the hub shearing the rivets off, or the hub splines getting sheared off, resulting in the free-wheeling of the clutch disk.

As well, I should warn you Jeff, you may be walking away from this experience with a transmission rebuild and new input shaft as a result if the clutch disk hub splines actually sheared off or rounded out. I hope it is a pressure plate failure, as it will cause less damage if it didn't scatter (as it sounds like it didn't) because it will be sitting there in the bellhousing. You will need to inspect your input shaft sleeve that the throwout bearing rides on for wear as well.

Keep in touch Jeff!

Later,

Yea, I recently changed the clutch and made sure everything was torqued correctly(but that is a possibilty). As for the shifter cables, that actually happened to me earlier in the summer and I had them replaced. The car goes into every gear just fine (w.o use of clutch) and you can just hear something bouncing around when you take the RPMs up (only when the car is IN gear)

And thank you for thhe compliment! Nice work you guys do

Thanks, It's only me. I do all the cars myself unfortunatly i have no one to help :(

Anyways, This just recently happen to a car I got aswell. It turned out to be the clutch disc, One of the springs broke out and sheared off, And I had the same problems.

Well you wont believe it but...right before I changed to this clutchnet 6puck I had a SBR 3500 organic disk in it. A spring popped half way out and was hitting the pressure plate fingers. It still caught but luckily again I was near my house LOL. I put this 6 puck in a month prior to this happening. They are designed much better to keep the springs inside the disk but Im not really sure what happened in there until I take the tranny off. It sounds a lot like clutch/pp problems though and not so much tranny like I suspected quickly. Im really hoping the center just spun out or something like that so the input shaft will be ok.

I cant believe you're down there doing all that by yourself. Thats impressive haha. If you ever need a hand doing anything let me know!
