Hi i have a 93 talon and i had a chatter from the transmission ever since i was done building it. The sound went away when i pushed the clutch in so i figured it was just the throw out bearing. eventually it got worse. it sounded like rod knock. so i pulled the trans and i noticed it had gear oil in the bell housing. I happened to have a spare trans so i put that one on with a new throw out bearing and clutch fork. it made the same sound. it chattered really bad and had a knocking sound. so i pulled the trans and put it back on without the clutch on and it didnt make any sounds. so its not the motor knocking or anything like that. i also tried a few more throw out bearings and another clutch kit. still made the same sound. now along with the chattering its making a squeaking sound. it sounds like crickets. but when you push the clutch in it goes away. i dont know what the problem could be. (btw i sold the transmission that was on my car before and it didnt make the chattering sound on my buddies car) i know its not the throw out bearing because every one i tried were brand new oem ones. so any ideas would help. thanks

i figured out the problem. it was the clutch disc. i put in a stock pressure plate and clutch disc and the noise went away. the clutch i had was a xtd stage 4 unsprung clutch. that surprises me because i saw nothing but good reviews for that clutch.
Input shaft bearing? the throw out bearing usualy will make noise when clutch is pushed in but a bad input shaft bearing will chatter with clutch engaged but go away when you push in the clutch. Someone correct me if im wrong. It just strange that it happened on both trans.

I thought input shaft too, but not in two transmissions... sure youre installing that flywheel and clutch properly?

And the pressure plate is good?

yeah that's why im stumped because it happened it two transmissions now. and It was all installed correct. and I had my brother in law who is a mechanic re install it just to be sure. and I also tried a different pressure plate.

If your balance shafts have been deleted and you are running an aftermarket lightened flywheel then the trans will have noise from the extra vibration. Its normal for the trans to rattle because of the necessary gear to gear backlash. My evo and a friend of mine with a shep stage 4 trans in his evo both make the same noise and it hasn't been a problem. Just annoying.
