has anyone ever rebuilt there own A/T? is there any specalty tools that you need like a press, or anything like that? I am thinking about getting the Ipt trans rebuild kit but I cant spend the cash to have it don't by a shop and I would realy like to give it a shot to see if I could do it but if I need a press or anyhting I will just have to go to the trans shop up the street for that.

thanks

kinda need to know asap want to order the kit soon

I don't think if I had ever built an A/T, that I would attempt it. Especially ours, it is very complicated. I assisted with a c4 build and it was difficult. There are adjustments and things that by the time you bought the tools you could have had a shop do it, faster and more reliably. If you brought the parts and the trans out of the car, they could not charge you that much to do it. All they are doing is assembling the trans, which is what they specialize in. They really get you on the labor to R&R the trans itself. Save the money and pull the trans yourself. Lastly, a good rule of thumb.... "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

problem is that no one that I call will use the kit from ipt if I get it for them to install. they refuse because then they can not warrenty the parts  so I will see how much my dads buddy will charge. heck if its still to much I will just have to do it. ;)

thanks

Hmm, did you ask them if they could buy the IPT parts for you? instead of you buying it for them to install? BTW it is very technical to rebuild our type of tranny. Most efficient way is to have a specialist do it. :thumb:
