so ran in to a small a snag in my tran swap i am doing a 91 manual in a 90 auto body after installing the trans my mount does not line up by quite a lot. I do not understand why. they are both non turbo models and when i look up the mount there is no difference between the manuals and auto. It looks like it is only off one way vertical. it looks like if you put like an inch worth of washers between the mount and the trans everything would work fine. so what am i missing? thanks

The pink highlighted number is the mount.

that was not the part i was talking about i wanted to know if there was a difference between the part that mounts to the fender. I already have that bracket i removed it with the trans in the junk yard so i know it is the right one but like i said between the mount on the fender and the bracket you guys pointed out there is an inch gap between.

I'm not really sure. I haven't seen an automatic in person to tell if there's a difference. If you have both mounts on hand, put them next to each other and compare them. There's obviously some sort of difference if it doesn't line up.

Done a few auto/manual and manual/auto swaps with different chassis. In your case kmaster the auto trans mount (not trans mount bracket as previously mentioned) is "shorter" than the manual chassis trans mount. In other words the auto mount locates the tranny higher in the chassis and the manual mount places the tranny lower. The reason for that is the diameter of the auto case is much larger and in order to get the engine to sit level the mount is made shorter or higher as you might say.

The solution depends on your personal tastes, but for me, I would get the mount that was designed for the intended application. Or if you are a decent fabricator and you take careful measurements you can drill a hole in the bracket a higher up effectively lowering it against the transmission. There's a lot of things that can go wrong with that option though so I would stick to getting the proper mount.

^ He is right. The auto trans is raised up. You can force the mounts to line up and it will work. Puts extra strain on the rubber mounts. The best way to go is the right mounts.

so then where would i get the proper mount from i usually get stuff from auto zone but they have it listed as the same part number and the one in the junk yard was shot so.... any ideas? or even how to know what would be the right one other than getting and then comparing the difference?

I don't have any pics of what you need but that's irrelevant. Autozone is about the most useless place to get parts with the level of (in)expertise of their employees, especially for our cars. There are definitely two different part numbers for auto and manual, if they don't list two then you can assume the mount if for the manual trans.

I would suggest going to a real parts supplier like NAPA or Parts Plus rather than a fast food retailer, and they'll get you the mount you need. Just order the trans mount for your year and transmission and it will bolt right in (assuming you have the right bracket for the trans).
