Hey so today after work I get in my car to leave. It reverses just fine. As im dropping off a girl to her house, I have to make a simple reverse. I cant I just go forward. I throw it over and bring it down as far as I can and it still slides into 4th. So im thinking great no F*^King reverse. I decide to check 5th as it felt loose. Sure enough 5th gear is now 3rd gear.
So if anyone knows how/ why My car can in 30 minutes drop 2 gears without hitting anything, running anything over, slamming gears, just stopped working please help.

5th gear IS 3rd gear
Reverse IS 4th gear.

Shifter axis bushings.

How so sure? One minute I have the gear the next I don't. Makes no sense to me.
I doubt anyone on here knows, but any knowledge on good edmonton tranny shops? I dont have a garage at the moment and today was -30

Just needs the selector shifter cable adjusted under the console. Also check the rubber bushings on the tranny end.

The trans could be bad, so many thing or going bad, works, doesnt really iffy.

What does that mean???? Please take your time and make a post that is worth reading and is helpful...

First make sure the shifter linkage is working correctly and there is nothing pushing on it. Try to rule out all the external possibilities before you think the worse.

I Agree...

The shifter linkage is most likely the problem.

Will it go through all the gears when car is off, if so a clutch problem otherwise if it still doesn't work linkage or synchros

Alright so I fixed her. I used VFaq as a reference and readjusted the linkage. 5th and reverse are usable again :D
Thanks for all the input boys
