tranny/transfer case question

Does the transmission and transfercase have two different capacities? I'm in automechanics and having problems with my car at the moment. I found a drain on the transfer case and it got me thinking. I'd appreciate if you could help me out.

Yes, the transmission takes 2.3-2.5 quarts, and the t case takes something like .5 quarts. I recommend Pennzoil Synchromesh (about 7.50 a quart at your local Autozone) in the transmission and Redline Shockproof in the transfer case/rear end.

Another question. Where do you fill up the transfer case? My automechanics teacher and I was trying to find it but couldn't.

Pretty sure it is the same bolt that you drain it from but I could be wrong.

No it's not the same bolt where you fill it from. It would not make sense to fill something up from where you drain it. It's a similar looking bolt, just above it. Look for it carefully, can't miss it, I think it's a 17mm, but it's been a while since i've changed my fluids, which i gotta do here soon.

I hope I get lucky and my transfer case is good. I pulled over off the interstate last week because my exhaust came off the downpipe and banged against the ground. So I pulled over, seen oil from the transfer case following me. Towed it to my automechanics class, pull the drain. I found little metal shavings in it. So were going to try to flush it out a few times then try it. Hope me luck with it.
