I have a 95 eclipse gs, 5spd manual...well the other day im getting ready to get off the freeway and of course im in 5th gear, as I approach the exit I downshift into third, or so I thought. Instead of going into 3rd i accidentally shifted into 1st, the rpms fly high, the front wheels start spinning and the engine is loud. I eventually get the car under control and I try to shift in gear with the clutch pedal all the way in and the stick will not move from neutral. When the car is off i can put it into all gears, only when its on it wont move from neutral...i tried starting it in first and the car lunges forward. Any input would be greatly appreciated, Im a student with limited funds so I hope its not too expensive to fix...thanks in advance

Definetly sounds like its clutch related or posssibly your clutch. I would say check clutch fluid, clutch line, slave cylinder, and master cylinder before check the clutch. My friend had problems with his car earlier in the summer, happen to be the master and slave cylinder. Let us know what happens after checking those

thanks a lot guys, i had it towed to the shop and it turned out to be both the master and slave cylinders...all its gonna cost me is 389 parts and labor!

Why don't you try and install it yourslef and save some money. My friend purchase his slave cylinder(new) for about $45 and about $80-$90 for the master cylinder(new). That is about $135, you can save about $250 if you do it yourself :thumb:

NOOOO! ;)

Seriously, you can do it yourself, easy. Its one of the easiest things you'll ever do to your car, and with the money you save you can buy yourself something nice!

sounds familiar, i down shifted at too high of rpm's and the clutch literally got shredded to pieces, had clutch material coming out in between the motor and tranny the whole way i coasted and after i stopped a small pile of it under car so i pulled the tranny and noticed the rivets let goOMG this was a Auto Zone clutch(cheap price=cheap part) lesson learned

FÜck them. Tell them they can take $389 out of their a$$ and roll into a nice joint and smoke it. You can do this yourself. The master and slave cylinders are easy to replace/rebuild... Don't be suckered... If they think it takes that much experise to repair/relace these items (including materials), then they are morons and can't even fix my broken exhaust fan in my bathroom that I use for the smell of the TURDS that i flush down the potty!!!!!
FÜck them!!!
FÜck them!!!
FÜck them!!!
They should go to hell.. . . . . . Let them see this post, NOW.

Sorry it is late. and I hate it when I see innocent guys like you get screwed.
