alright so out of nowhere, after I moved the car out of the garage the starter wants to move the car slightly forward when it appears the shifter is in neutral.

when moving the car back into the garage, the timing wants to move so I didnt move the car. I'm pretty sure its in neutral, the shift linkage is hooked up right, and the shifers moving freely left & right...

^^ this is what I asked about, when I was installing the clutch/flywheel. I'm positive I did it right, and aligned the holes with the tool...used threadlocker on everything.

EDIT - This Problem was so simple it was unbelivable - lucas oil stabilizer - to read more on the real problem click the link below

When you start it do you have the clutch disengauged?? Car could be stuck in a gear due to a broken shift fork..

that car was left and started in neutral without the clutch being pressed in like always.

I dont think anything is broken, more like not aligned. anybody have a clue??

how....not to mention WHY I would adjust the cables if they're connected correctly..

alright so I'm trying to look up info on shift linkage for 2gs, and the actual shifting of the arms.

That is , the arms outside the transmission that the cables are hooked to, I'd like to take the cables off and see if I can move it to neutral. Not sure how to move it though, thats why Im still looking things up.

I also know you want to have the shifter in a certain postion before you pull the clips, or I'm pretty sure anyways, that it's probably neutral.

I guess it's really the only thing it could be...if the clutch is working/adjusted correctly, so it's something transmission related. I understand you really have to rebuild yourself to know how it is, but Ive engaged the trans and moved the car around the yard & slightly down the road in 1st2nd3rd, before I rebuilt the whole engine.

I made sure I put the clutch & pressure plate correctly, just kills me that it's not shifting right.

disconnect the shifter cables and make sure the car is not in gear and see if it rolls or moves when you start it ..if it dosent that means it was that the shifter has to be adjusted along with the cables.. now if you put it into 1st ( no cable connected ) and press clutch down and car still moves when you start it that means its a clutch problem which usually can be adjusted by the petal assembly..

thanks for the information. Do you happen to know which way I need to move the 2 arm peices, that the cables connect to? I was going to take a look as soon as my friend comes over, to see which way my cables move when freely moving around left & right, just to get some kind of idea before I take the cables off.

I'm STILL researching, all i've read about otherwise is to check the rubber bushings on the linkage cables themselves. Never occured to me. But I really need to find out how the 2 arms on the transmission moves themselves so I can figure out if this is a simple fix or a major problem

still trying to figure out the arm movement. What's the deal with the huge shifting peice underneath the 2 arm peices?

is it possible to move the shift linkage arms with the cables still attached?
