I already posted in the newbie forum, since I am relatively new to DSM's, but it's gotten overrun so quickly, that I fear it won't be answered. please pardon me for posting the similar question here, but I really need some help or I aint gonna be able to get to work on Monday!

My tranny mates to the engine just fine everywhere except at the location at the dowel pin closest to passenger. As the 5 bolt locations are torqued and seated together just fine, there is about an 1/8" gap at that dowel

Will anyone please tell me what's wrong?

This install, btw, is an ACT 2600# / street disc, and a Fidanza flywheel onto a Jan 1995 2g 7 bolt AWD

The fact that that locator dowel's hole in the tranny has threads that START at about a 10mm deep counterbore and are a SMALLER thread than the THREADING on the engine block boss at that location further baffles me.

So you have (starting with the tranny) threaded hole - smooth hole for the dowel - / eighth inch gap! / -smooth hole for dowel in engine block boss - larger threads

I am unfortunately stuck doing this install without a shop manual. VFAQ.com, this site and one other DSM site have got me far enough to pull off a successful clutch job, except for this one problem I can't figure out.

If anyone here has a shop manual, and would be kind enough to share some information with me I'd be most gracious.

Is there some sort or fastener that goes THROUGH that hollow dowel and through threading in the tranny?

is that gap normal?

Yes, there is a bolt that goes through that hole. The gap is not normal, you should check to make sure nothing got caught between the trans and block. Maybe the gap is from the engine hanging down slightly?

thanks to the previous owner there are many bolts missing. I have made so many trips to the hardware store it ain't even funny!

It turned out to be just that one bolt, so now the trans and transfer case are installed with no more mating problems

There is something else that's not adding up to me though, If you place the car in gear and rotate both axle shafts, the axles just spin.

Shouldn't this (attempt to) turn the motor over?

I have thoroughly bled the clutch, but to no avail. if the axles wont turn the motor, then how will the motor turn the axles???

In other words, my car SEEMS as if it would be UNABLE to be push started

actually, my 11 & 12 yr olds were helping out with reassembly. I had one control the jack, the other rotate the drivers side wheel (to turn the axle to line things up) and at first, it seemed to want to try to turn the motor over... now that I've completely bolted everything in (except pass suspension and structural parts) she just spins.

Did I Screw something up?

Is something defective?

By the way, with the transfer case out, you can get a slight grip on the flywheel and clutch. an attempt to turn reveals COMPRESSION. There's also nothing screwy with the tranny either. turn the input shaft and everything else spins as it should.

Anybody know whats awry?

Can you be more specific? Exactly which wheel did you turn? Were the other wheels up in the air, or were they on the ground? Did you check which direction the other axle rotated?

Sometimes it's easy to spin a wheel on an AWD car without anything being broken.

yeah, it's up on jack stands (front) but on it's feet in the rear... I can grab both front axles from underneath, and rotate both at the same time and in the same direction quite easily... Do these diffs slip this easily!
Maybee I should set my sights on an aftermarket LSD

One last question, are all the drivetrain parts installed on the car? If the transfer case is unhooked, then the front wheels will spin easy like that. If everything is bolted in place and the front wheels spin like that, then you have problems.

Normally with both front wheels up in the air and both rear wheels on the ground you can spin the front wheels easily, but they will rotate in opposite direction.
