Hey guys, quick question. I was at Napa the other day and wanted to buy fluid for my transfer case and my tranny so I asked the guy. Something like 0.6L in the transfer case and like 2.8L in the tranny, both being 75w90. I wanted something nice like BG Synchroshift, but that is normal tranny fluid. Now, I went ahead and bought 3L of Royal Purple 75w90. I was just wondering about the differences between BG Synchroshift and this Royal Purple gear oil. I didn't know you could use tranny fluid if the application required 75w90 or something similar...

I'm not sure where it's posted, but there's a difference in the transmission and the transfer case fluids.

Maybe someone can tell you where it is.

BG Synchroshift is thinner then what is recomended for a 1G. Some people like it cause the car will shift a little smoother when cold. But it does not protect as well, and may cause premature wear in the tranny. If you do use it, you better change it once a year, cause it does not have the strength that a 75W90 will.

Also, you are technically supposed to use a GL4 gear oil (Like Redline MT90, which is a 75W90 weight GL4, fully synthetic oil). BG Synchroshift is not a GL4.

The royal purpel should be ok for the tranny.

I don't have the specs right here, but as far as the Tcase and the rear diff, the most popular one for us DSMr's is Redline Shockproof. It's thick strong, and 100% synthetic. I don't know what weight it is or the specs from mitsu on which weight is required. But I am running ths shockproof in my rear diff right now. I had redline in my Tcase but I got a leak. Of course there is a recall on that for leaking anyway. I don't know what's in it right now, but I will go non synth on it, just in case.

I had BG Synchroshift in my previous transmission, I didn't realize it was so much thinner then what's specified. Anway, that tranny ended up with a bad first gear or something.

I have Redline mt90 in my tranny.
