Welp, here is my story real quick. I bought my sweet Plymouth laser (N/T Auto) for $100. I then put in a JDM motor. The motor runs beautifully and I've had no problems with that. The trans now has 189k on it (assuming its the original).
For the most part, the tranny seems to work ok. However, when it is cold (i mean below 30 degrees) it seems to slip a little when going from a standstill, until the engine has been running a minute or two. Then it seems ok. I put a little lucas tranny fluid stabilizer or something (looks just like the oil stabilizer bottle) and it seems to have made it a little better, but it still does it. The colder it is, ususally the worse it gets.
Also, no matter what the temp of the engine/weather, the car vibrates pretty badly when sitting still with the tranny in D. if I pop it into neutral, the vibrating stops. I wonder if this is from an idle that is too low, or what. It seems to idle in gear around 700. Is it possible this is related to why the car sometimes dies when backing in reverse and then letting off the throttle???
The other problem I have is when I am slowing down to a stop sign and I begin acceleratin again. When I do this, and only when I do this, the tranny seems to not engage for a second, and then kinda jerk into gear. If I really ease onto the throttle, it doesnt really do it. As if the tranny needs to spool up for a second before it will engage.
Otherwise it goes throught the gears just fine and downshifts normally. Is it possible that my torque converter is bad? Could I just replace that and solve my problems?
