Hey guys, I've had my DSM just sitting at a local tranny shop for awhile, because I don't feel like shoveling out $2,100 to have them fix it. I bought the car for $2000 a few months back, car was in really bad shape when I got my hands on it, fixed most of it up, was saving the tranny for last, because I really didn't know how bad off it was, car had to be babied into second gear all the time, that should have been enough reason to fix it right then and there, but I didn't, but hey we all make mistakes, I'm still a pretty new DSM'er, or cars in general to tell you the truth! But we all have to start somewhere, right?

As the title says, the mechanic told me I have Broken Shift Forks, bad Synchro Bearings and Seal, Clutch is gone, and the Flywheel can be saved, but needs regrounding. Car starts, but when I let off the clutch she dies.

First thing that came to my head like many others, is sending it to Shep or someone, getting a nice tranny rebuild, but that unfortunately that is not an option for me right now. Can anyone give me any advice or estimates how this should cost to fix? Am I better off just dealing with the hassle of finding a used tranny?

Thanks

Kevin

Nice ride man,
Reminds me slighty of my situation, seriously if you have any plans of doing this car right send the tranny you have right now and go to the wreckers. Get an awd tranny from there, max like 100$, throw that in baby it. Then when you have your cash to do the right thing send your old core to shep and get them to rebuild it. When your at the wreckers just feel the shift, if you have any problems getting into gear when the vehicle is off and not moving DO NOT TAKE IT. Look for a smooth shift, personally I would look for a car that has been written off in an accident ( less chance that it's in the boneyard becasue of technical difficulties).

Find a used tranny and throw that in there for now.
Shep or other DSM tranny shop for your rebuild.
I have never heard of synchro bearings, and you will need to learn about these cars if not they will not be worth it for you.
