2G Tow strap mounting

That rear design is extremely dangerous without a way to smoothly redirect the load laterally.

Only a couple hundred pounds of force to rip that weld right open unless you add some really robust gussets. Then it'll become a projectile and hopefully the tow vehicle and driver are protected.

I certainly don't agree with "extremely dangerous" but I do agree the design is a compromise of many factors and there are numerous other ways to make a stronger tow hook. Unfortunately, those would involve cutting body work, more expense, more weight, etc. etc. We haven't tested the rear mount so I can't say for sure how strong it is, but I would trust it for "normal" use.

I posted a video earlier in the thread where we did test the front bracket before welding on a gusset and it's a similar design. Granted, the rear does have a longer lever and the weld is different between the two, but that was able to pull a truck/trailer with a winch back towards the car when the winch was applied. The weak point was the OEM metal inside the frame rail. I'm not sure how much pulling force that equated to.

The rear tow strap brackets are now for sale. I only made a small batch so DM me if you're interested!

For anyone looking, I still have some of these available for 2ga and 2gb.
