Abbotsford,
Ok, I am almost fed up with DSM's... almost, but not quite yet. I think my torque coverter blew a hole in it.

So here's my question.... If fluid starts pouring out when you throw it into gear, do I hafve a hole in my torque coverter?? I just got my turbo working properly, took it out on the freeway went to 150 KM/h and thats when it started.

It is literally pouring out.

Thanks

Its probably the front seal in the pump. Its almost impossible to blow a hole in the converter.

can that be replaced??? Or do I have to replace the whole thing?? That would be awsome if I could just do the seal!! :)

This is getting frustrating.. first I kept breaking the axle steady bearings because the tranny was seperating from the block.. had to pull the tranny to replace the flexplate. Then a cold idle problem, and now this, all in six months.. .. ... I think I want a NEW eclipes.. I love mitsu, but damn!!!

Thanks!

Yeah, you can replace just the seal but you have to pull the tranny to do it. The seal only costs about $5.

Cool.. that would be awsome.. so is this seal the one on the output shaft...??? I am hoping it is something stupid like that.... Cheap but a p.i.t.a. Well, it's another weekend shot working on this damn thing :) I think I am going to be getting a divorce soon.....

Sweet, thats the one I was thinking of.. now do I have to pull the cover off, or could I just dig it out and use a pipe or something to drive the new one in???

Thanks

You don't have to take the pump apart. You can get it with a strait screwdriver and a hammer. Using a pipe as a driver will work.

cool...thanks for the help..im tearing her apart tomorrow morning....

thanks for the pic too!!! This board is very helpful....

One last thing.. I guess it makes sense that it's the seal, and the the t.c since I am still able to drive it. If the torque converter were leaking, I would get no pressure in there.....

Am I correct in thinking this??

Thanks

You are correct. If the converter had a hole in it, there would be low internal pressure making the converter unable to lock up or engauge. It would be very sluggish and hardly move.

sorry to revive this but im about to put in the converter seal and i cant remember which way it came out... so if anyone could help i would really appreciate it...

does the open side of the seal point toward the convertor or the opposite

Not necessarily. I had a hole in my converter when part of my flexplate broke apart and could still drive, and it leaked like a mofo.
But yeah it could be (probably is) the seal, the torque converter hub, or the unlikely hole in the torque converter, if it's leaking from the bell housing.
You'll know when you pull it. Just remember to Overlook EVERYTHING!
Good Luck. :talon:

D@man. I just realized this is from '05. Oh well good to know info anyway.
