Top Mount T3/T4 Header

@Peregrine, it's a Mitsubishi Lancer 2000 Turbo. It's a 1982 car also known as a Evo zero :D The engine is running great, but I need a new stronger clutch! Centerforce clutch is coming my way.

You would position the turbo on top for the following reasons:

1) Shit Breaks. It's easier to take it apart when you can get to it easier.
2) Header is longer which results in faster spool, especially with the 5" merge collector feeding the turbo.
3) The tubing is actually close in length. Remember how fast exhaust moves? The 1/2" difference will not cause much of a difference from what I understand.
4) The downpipe won't be going under the motor, it will be going beside the motor. ;)

Longer tubing does not directly equate to faster spool. There are limits, after which spool will become slower, but absolute power will still be gained. If I have a header that has 6 feet of pipe, and the most beautiful merge collector on earth, the turbo will not spool as fas as a standard GT manifold, but the massive scavenging would be good for maximum power, especially with the use of nitrous.

Nice car, but I thought Galant VR-4's were considered Evo Zeros?

That top mount will give you a big single Supra look, but I didn't realize it gave any sort of performance gain. I figured it was all about packaging and nothing more.

The Evolution series has started with the Lancer 2000 Turbo. The base of the engine is the same as the Evo's now, it is also a 4G63.
The reason why I made the manifold is, there is not much space between turbo and enginemount. The manifold is made of just simple steel. My goal with this engine is 350 RWHP.

Buschur's old RWD car
Rau's RWD talon
Buschur's Conquest

Lots more.

I read that it was to be RWD, but I can see from the pics that it looks to be more complicated than I would hope for. I was going to mess abound with one for a FWD/AWD car. but it is a pain.

Also, with all of the options availadle in terms of mounting with a RWD car, especially if you tube the front frame, I think you will find yourself wanting a different set up later on down the line.

Ummm... I believe Brent Rau makes his own manifolds for his Eclipse :thumb:

Anyhow, nice work Nick, can't wait to see it run. :thumb:
