If you don't know heres the story: I have a 1997 rs, ( no i'm not selling it) it's all stock except a catback system 2.5in. and some 17' rims.. hehe and i need tech advice on what to do. now to be clear this is not a track only care as i want it as my daily driver as well. I'm thinking about getting a 2.4l shortblock and was wondering if it actually adds any real performance gains in the long run. And i was told a 420a will not run 9's and be a daily driver so i figure 11's aren't to aggresive but would really like lowish 10's. Now could someone that has done this before tell me what i need besides a whole wad of cash... i am a patient person so if i have to i'll save for the parts..and yes i am going to "rice" the car also just in case that makes any difference.. thnx in advance and if you need to know more please just ask so i don't get a (wow he's a moron) comment from anyone
( I am a complete NOOB.)LOL

I would say step one is turbo.

a 10 sec 420A is ummm a crazy built car.

I would start mellow like i'm doing around 250-275 crank HP and build up from there.

Get any of those low numbers your going to need a really expensive setup with a big turbo

I agree....you are going to have to spend quite alot of money to get your car even to 12's...My advice, grab a cheap tsi *2nd gen* and have the rs for a daily driver. You can probably grab a TSI for the price of the motor and install. But if you do decide to green light the rs project go for it! Let us know how everything is coming along!

You would like low 10's and for it to be your daily driver? Do you have any idea what it takes to get a car into the 10's, especially a 420a motor? 11's aren't to aggressive, thats new viper & corvette Z06 territory, I wold say thats pretty aggressive. Now obviously your not going to run anywears close to those times on a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder car, so you need a fully built motor & a larger turbo, not to mention completely built drivetrain, etc, etc. You are probably talking a turbo that doesn't spool till 5000 rpms plus, do you think this would be a good setup for a daily driver? Not to metion with the kind o power you need to put down you will spin the tires like crazy in every gear when the turbo spools being fwd. If you build the car to runs 12's on street tires, you still will need deep pockets, and 3 or more times as much horsepower as your currently making.

I realize all of these drawbacks and plan to go a little overkill on my drivetrain, going with fidanza. But i have no idea wether or not a 2.4L shortblock swap to a ported and bored block (um not sure how big need advice) Stage V head with forged pistons etc. where do i get all of this and where do i get the turbo necesarry to do all of that...thnx.

Your cheapest and easiest route would be to find a wrecked srt-4 neon and buy the drivetrain out of it. I know that it will fit because a friend of mine did this conversion on his 96 neon. Then with good tires and a mopar stage three power seetup you can be in 340 to 400 horsepower range. That horsepower level should be enough to get you into the 11's if you can drive.

Now if you start ricing it out then you have take into consideration that you are going to slow your car down. First off all of those aftermarket bodykits add drag to your car because they are designed to (or just cheap attempts at) increase downforce (downforce equals drag). Secondly you will probably want a loud stereo system so that is going to add weight; increased weight means more power needed to run the same times.

I only told you that to let you know when you add things to your car you have make compromises. You can't have a full blown race car as a daily driver without giving up the creature comforts, and you can't have a full blown show car and expect it to fast. A friend of mine had a 3g that was a fullblown show car with a complete fiberglass interior, bodykit, and a supercharged 3.0 v6 in it. His car ran slower than a stock gt because of all of the body modifications he made for show. His car was putting out around a hundred more hp than stock but was slower than a stock car.

Fidanza flywheel or? Thats isn't overkill on the drive train, that is one very small piece. Depending on the setup fidanze aluminum flywheels can be to light and lead to poor driveability at slow speeds and stalling when pushing the clutch in. Not sure how strong the 420a tranny is but I would imagine not as strong as the 4G63. To do it properly you will need new drive shafts, tranny rebuild, clutch, flywheel, half shafts, urthane bushings etc. You can easily drop $5000+ on these parts alone. To turn those kinds of times on a fwd you will also need a set of slicks, thats why you need a really beefy drivetrain. As for the motor probably better to do a 4G63 swap if you want to make big power. Its probably best to ask questions about the 420a motor in its specific forum, you will get better response there.

Hahn ran 10's on the stock 420A tranny...

Davion1089 you need to stop asking such broad questions and do more research. You've been given all the necessary resources in the other threads you started. In case you lost the links already, here are a few again:

http://www.2GNT.com
http://www.hahnracecraft.com
...Not to mention our own 420A forums, which you should search aggressively before starting your next thread.

As for having someone answer your questions who has already ran "lowish 10's," don't count on it - Hahn currently holds the world record for a 420A Eclipse on the 1/4 mile at 10.87 seconds.
