So, I had an issue with a new TSI AWD I picked up ; the trans wouldn't shift with the car running. I checked the clutch fork/slave cylinder, and sure enough, it was way to the passenger side of centerline. The car had a 2600 clutch kit installed about 4 years ago (and has been parked for 3 due to this issue). So, I pulled the trans yesterday, thinking "I'll just have to shim the pivot ball and all will be well with the world". Well, I found a little more than that LOL.

I think the problem is here:

So, the plastic TOB casing began melting, and the whole thing came apart, chewing into the clutch fork pads some. I'm going to replace the fork because I don't think it'll be good to run one with worn pads like this. Fortunately, the pressure plate fingers are in perfect shape, no signs of wear there.

However, I do have a question. Prior to making this discovery, I attempted adjusting the clutch pedal throw. During this process, there was a point that I smelled clutch disc, and after shutting it off, saw smoke coming from the bellhousing vent. Do you think I toasted the clutch disc, or do you think that light slipping won't hurt it? The clutch doesn't have very many miles on it, and I'm inclined to think it'll be fine.

Disc looked ok; replaced the fork & tob, and the car shifts like a dream. Next problem is bad cam sensor. i'll replace it next week when I install my kelford 272's and beehive springs.
