well here is the story in short, i hate mustang GTs and cobras. there are probably 1000 of them here in lakeland. i raced 03 GT with full exhaust and 373 gears and he barely pulledd on me (from 2nd gear roll) and my freinds 98 GT with same mods wants to race me all the time but i dont want to get beat. after i race all these big mnuscle cars that beat me they always are astonished that a 2.0L hung with them. i want to pull on them tho, i need to know the less expensive, easy on long time use daily driver car mods i can get to beat at least mustang GTs and hang with z28s. Im ordering the joey p mbc and the QTEC electric exhaust cutout, i already have a 1g BOV, will thyat be enough? i also plan on getting hard piping and k&n air filter. thanks.

The new mustangs are 260HP with around 285LBS foot torque, so they will take a little more modding, the older ones you should be able to beat with just a couple of mods if not stock. They are also heaviear so you have that working to your advantage. 10LBS per 1HP is a de3cnt guideline.

so i should be able to beat him with those mods i listed? he runs 9.1 in 1/8 and i havent ran mine yet. i did all the free mods and i can peg 14lbs on a cold night. what about a 14b to replace my t25. and would that 14b connect to my stock 2g exhaust? causeni dont wanna put the QTEC on it and then have to replace exhaust.

I have heard good things about the 14B conversion and am currently pricing that out for myself, although I am not versed enough yet in the DSM engine to answer. Maybe one of the more knowlegable fellas can help out.

theres a couple ways you go about it and achieve the same destination. Do a search in this forum under "14B" in titles only and you will get all the info you need. Thats how I got mine, I just cant remeber everything

If you were asking about a 14 B from a t25 the answer would be a big yes. It will help you out a ton and is very cheap. Get your hands on a used one for like 60-100 bucks and you can easily blow away your T25 w/ less boost. It will bolt up to your exhaust manifold though it fits like the other mitsu turboes (16g, 20g etc). Thats means you will need to bend your coolant lines, you can get your oil lines to connect w/ a little moding, and need a little J-pipe to connect the compressor wheel. Thats a quick crappy run-down but searching should net you some results. Look at the Tech article below. He does the install for very cheap w/out a "install kit"

Yes, they are foul and evil machines. I had older models ('83 and '86 GTs) before I saw the light and got my DSM. A 4.6 or 5.0 liter V8 has much more torque than a 2.0 liter, no matter how much turbo boost you use, so the initial advantage is with the monster engine. However, using a K&N kit and hotter EPROM should let you get the advantage back as the speed rises. The new Cobras have 300 bhp and they are about the same weight as a DSM (1500 kg or 3300 lb)so you'll need to get the same number of ponies to beat the newest models. The 98 had 225 bhp so he should be easy meat.

i am on stock t25 runnin 13.5 psi, my top end is shit, should i try and shift at 5.5k or 6k? after that oit feels like im standing still. thx. oh and 1st gear wheel spin sucks. :thumbdown :thumbdown

its this simple, graba boost gauge, mbc, 14b, boost no more then 15 psi, on the 14b.. bye bye stang!! BUT.. huge BUT...... learn how to dive, by wheel spin i assume u are fwd, driving skills is the cheapest and best mod any tuner can do to their car....plain and simple, but w/ these stated mods, u should pull on most stangs on the street(stock).. but not the cobras!!!

I sold fords up until last november and if I remember correctly the cobras are suprecharged with 395 hp :barf: If im wrong, please correct me

You are right for advertised hp but a friend of mine had his dynoed ad it put 390 to the rear tires. This was a 04 cobra bone stock with no mods and the week he bought it, went to the track and ran 12.63, traction limited. More like 425-440 flywheel hp.

Close.

'03/04 Cobras are rated @ 390 BHP, but reality is more like 425. My car made 367 RWHP (~431 BHP) with a drop-in K&N and sig numbers (~467 BHP) with 5,000 break-in miles, catback and CAI - $448.00 in mods...

As for the original topic, I agree that if you lost to a geared '99-up GT, by only a car, you should have no problem with mostly stock '96-98 GTs. They were, by far, the slowest Mustang since 1984 (96-98 were the first SN95s = heavy, and only rated at 215 BHP).

As for Cobras, any of the DOHC versions ('96-up) are 13 second cars, stock, and low, low 13 second (some twelve) cars with the "usual" - CAI, UD pulleys, exhaust, gears, tires - bolt-ons...

Hope that helps.

Interesting...I beat Mustangs ALL the time with little effort, although I am still trying to discover all the mods the previous owner did to the vehicle. The following mods are in place:
Blitz DD BOV
3" DP,Cat,Catback
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Profec-i Boost Controller
Upper Intercooler Piping
Intake Pipe w/ K&N Filter

I have yet to really have a serious problem with Mustang Drivers...the only ones I really have a problem with are the newer cobras that push over 300HP stock. 5.0s haven't been a problem, neither have GTs or other cobras, I pull good on GTs from a roll and I beat older cobras from lights but not from rolls.

Mustang drivers around here seem to be the biggest arrogant asses until you dust them, then they tend to shut their mouths. It definitely will not take much money to beat mustangs my mods that are currently on my car cost maybe $600 all together.

i was watching Horsepower TV one morning on SPIKE. And they had a 96 stang (first year for the 4.6=SHIT) it dynoed in at 180 RWHP. That was pitiful. Then they added a few mods and it only jumped to like 195 or something like that. It was BAD.

P.S- i also HATE stangs. Whip them all for me. All the stang owners think they are so bad ass cuz they got a V8. I beat two 5 litre stangs around here with not much problems. i was mostly stock. I think all i had was either the K&N and the intercooler pipe or just the K&N i don't remember.

Stangs are over rated.

GIT-R-DONE!

If ur running 13.5 psi your BOV might start leaking (if its a stock 2g), and if you crank up the boost on a 14b ur deffinately going to leak. 98 Gts should be easy if you can shift gears, but I agree, stay away from the 03-04 Cobra's they are beasts (i got a lot of those and s-281's running around here, along with the usual rice patrol)
