Tips on painting my valve cover

when I powdercoated mine on my 1g I sand blasted it washed it with simple green and a pressure washer to clean it up before the coating process. it then got pre-cooked to get any oil out of the metal and help prevent outgassing. it then got washed again, then dried in the oven for like 10 mins before it was coated. I never pulled my baffle off, so i don't know if there was any sand left over, but it has been on the car for 6 yrs without a motor problem. to my knowledge, ANY of the vc's I coated (100's) have never had a problem with sand damaging the engine. just depends on who preps it and their process I guess.

Some people have used VHT Wrinkle Finish which is not bad if surface prepped correctly. A couple coats and then bake, pretty good durabilty

i was told by a buddy of mine letting the VC soak in brake fluid for a couple hours will just eat all the paint and whatnot off. i've never tried it nor do i recommend it because i've never tried it but it does seem viable.

I sanded mine down to bare metal. Then i rubbed protrolium jelly on all the tops of the letters. Then when it dries you can just wipe off your letters and have a nice cut look to them.
