tips on 420a n/t performance upgrades new to dsms

hi im new to the whole tuner dsm world i have been around cars and trucks all my life i know a chevy front to back but the whole fuel injection tuner chip craze has trown me all off i just wanted to know because my dad is gonna get me a 1990 eagle talon 420a n/t 2wd because he says he dosent want me starting out with a bunch of power soooo............ im asking this question to get the most power as i can ### daddy dont know want hurt em

Hold on there are no 1990 talons/eclipse with a 420 engine.. It's more like a N/t 46g3 engine.

Not very much can be done to a n/t but maintenance. Then later on add a turbo.

maybe it does have the 46g3 im not sure how could i check to be sure sorry for my lack of knowledge im a noobe

If it's a 2.0L non turbo, it will have a hump in the hood and have a 4g63 in it. If it's a 1.8L non turbo, it will not have a hump in the hood and it will have a 4g67 in it. 420a is only in 95-99 non turbo models.

ok then from what i have heard it must be the 4g63 because its non turbo and has the hump in the hood what are your oppinions on this motor pros cons??

Is there a specific reason to go N/T? You should tell your dad that even for a nonturbo, the 180whp that a turbo dsm makes is pretty weak by today's terms, and when you send it to all four wheels it's by no means crazy. If you want to get technical, go get a Car and Driver magazine, and compare the 0-60 times from a 2011 Camry to the 0-60 time of a turbo dsm. No, they aren't that crazy at all until you get into building them. He'd be doing you a favor by going turbo. By the time you throw money into an N/T you might as well have gotten the Turbo. Hell, add the price of an intake and exhaust to that N/T and you are well into the range of Turbo, these cars are so cheap these days that getting a turbo model right off the bat saves you money in the long, in almost any scenario.

Better yet, just tell him that thing under the manifold is an exhaust recirc. unit, it works with the pvc valve, and it's for emissions.... And the AWD is for snow and wet conditions.

well were getting the car for 300 bucks and its in great condition just needs a fuel pump and its a non turbo ive looked at turboed talons and eclipses cant find one as cheap and i have a friend that has a turbo i can get cheap so i might just make it turbo and do some exuast and intake work and call it done atleast till i run into some money to go all out

it takes quite a bit to reliably turbo the car...oil pan, ecu, injector resistor pack, injectors, exhaust manifold, turbo, downpipe, most likely a bigger pump if your pushing anything for boost, a fpr, an intake for the turbo, wire in a MAS, intercooler, oil lines....I've missed alot most likely and on a non turbo car, after you do that, you still can't push much boost. One easy(ish) alternative with a 1g is swap in a turbo motor (including harness, ecu and resistor pack), which would probably end up being your cheapest option.

You could maybe see 130 to the wheels, if the engine's in good shape, with intake, exhaust, and a tune.

i read up a lil bit on parts and junk and i figure i will get a cam, injecters, and fuel rail for now just to beat around till i find a good turbo talon or eclipse any suggestions on performance parts for now??
