Here's an interesting question...What do you use to time laps around a track?
I know during my first event I had the option to rent a transponder and recieve laptimes, but my second event that wasn't available. I've seen in car systems such as Hot Lap which used an infrared transmitter or Traqmate which is GPS based. Traqmate also has a nifty feature where it can trace out the track you race on based on the positioning of your car from the GPS and indicate speeds in different portions of the track.
Should a student in the lower ranks of a driving school be concerned about lap times? Is it a viable tool or a distraction?
