Please help
I was pulling my newly purchased dsm off my trailer then i cranked it up and started it. All of a sudden it started to run really unresponsive to the rpms. That is when i shut it off and parked it.I looked under the hood and i saw the balance shaft belt broke and and caused my timing belt to skip a tooth.I am having the timing set back in correctly now and i am wondering what kind of problems should have occured from that and what to look for when its started back up. I have heard it can cause it to bend valves ,put a hole in the top of a piston,Mess up my rod bearings,I am not really sure what to look for . If you have any suggestions on what to look for or listen out for please reply. Thanks
 
How many did it exactly jump? Some have escaped certain engine deaths if it only jumped like 1 or 2. Expect broken valves or dead pistons if you're unlucky. I don't think it'll affect the rod bearings. And yes do a compression test to see if your valves are intact.
 
I aprreciate it when i get it back i will do a compression test on it, i am pretty sure it just skipped one tooth.
 
Mine skipped a tooth and bent all 8 intake valves. So best bet is just take the head off and find out. Did knock some dings in the pistons but everything is okay.
 
do this right the first time buddy! do not put it back together! Take the head off, inspect the valves and see if they are seated. You can even try to rotate the cam with the 17mm bolt on the cam gear to see if the valves are working. If no damage has been done now (slim chance) it will be hurt if you put it back together and anything isn't 100%.
 
Not too hi-jack your thread but say if the compression was 130 in all 4 cylinders would that mean the valves would be bad

It could be a number of things. You would have to do a leak down test to find the source. The easiest to start off a leak down test would be to test your rings. Pour like a capful of oil into each cylinder and then redo the compression test. If the numbers jump up, it means the rings are worn.
