Trying to start up my car with the new motor in it and set the timing. But we can't get the timing light to light up. We've tried using the timing light on 2 other dsm's and worked fine. Won't work on mine though.

We've swapped out with another known good CAS, flipped them both 180 degrees just to be sure, changed plug wires from one of the other dsm's that we knew had a signal from with the timing light, even changed the order of the wires. Still nothing. Anyone have any ideas??? Using MAFTpro as a the new engine management system and stock ecu.....for now. Thanks!

the light wont flash unless the car is running , the light is connected to the battery, and the magnetic pickup is on the number 1 sparkplug wire. Is this what you did? As long as everything is back together properly your car should start and once the car is at operating temp, then set timing.
Good Luck

Sorry, didn't know ya'll replied. Yeah, the car is running and all. 2 other cars worked fine with it. Now my car has a SMIM and made a bracket for the coil pack. If for some reason it wasn't grounded to metal well enough could that cause the problem? We're all scratching our heads. Thanks!

P.S. I'm getting all the info on my logger and even have a code for knock sensor but it's brand new. Have spark but car runs like crap as well....REALLY rich and even have fuel in the oil now it's so rich. Have to change the oil. Not sure if it's because of the MAFTpro that's in it or what. Trying to figure out all the settings, etc.

Guess I forgot to update this thread cause the forum was down. Come to find out, the coilpack wasn't grounded very well. Something to keep in mind when installing a SMIM. If you have to re-mount the coilpack, better make sure you have it grounded really well.
