Well after finding out that my water pump wasn't my overheating problem, I had to put the timing belt back on and get the car started. After a few tries, the car fired up, idling beautifully. However, when driving around, if I try to accelerate quickly (not floor it, just give it a little gas), the car hesitates and kind of shudders--almost like I threw it into too high of a gear and I'm trying to accelerate from 20mph in 5th gear.
I don't know what's causing the shuddering/shaking problem. If I accelerate really slowly and baby the car as I speed up, it drives smoothly and is fine. Anyone have any tips?

The car wouldn't start, obviously, but he did try to start it with the engine timed like this. Now that I've re-timed the engine, it runs great at idle and in neutral. When it's in gear, however, it does this shuddering thing. I don't suppose this could be caused by bent valves could it?
