Time For A Jdm

My motor craped out on me (90 tsi awd) and now im looking for a better motor.
Ive been looking at jdm stuff from www.total-boost.com has any one heard anything good about them?

Also if i install the motor into my car does it need a new ecu and senors or are the j-spec stuff compatable with the north american stuff.

i got one word for ya, rebuild. leave the jdm stuff for the honda guys. all you get by going jdm is like 10 hp, and then you dont know for sure how long the motor is going to hold up. i think you will be much happier with a rebuild.

if you rebuild it at least you know that everything is in good condition...but $1400 with a trans isn't too bad.

Nah, that's not bad at all. I would rather rebuild with 1g rods and 2g pistons if I was you tho bro. It would be alot cheaper to do that rather than buy that engine and swap it into the car.

And if you rebuild, you can get rid of the balancers and do some other motor work.

The thing is tho, my tranny is notchy as #### and my turbo burns oil like a sunofabitch.... so im not sure what to do. I already have a ported exh. manifold that i will throw onto the jdm aswell as remove the balancers on it. The jdm comes with a 14b turbo.....

i dunno, im leaning more towards the jdm b/c in canada a rebuilt motor will run me 2700cdn without a tranny.

What do u think?

I say good plan, Im going to be selling my NT within the next few months to get ahold of an awd parts car or blown engine car and install a jdm. Ive been looking at Osaka

All ya gotta do is swap sensors and such, your old engine will have all the bolt ons and crap that wont come with the jdm.

If it comes with a 14b then dont bother get a usdm and you wont have a beat up motor from japan. They didnt give a damn about dsm's so youd problly be getting a beat motor. But its your money

You can't say that all jdms are beat up, its VERY expensive to own a car in Japan, so maybe 5 out of 20 are beaten to shit by rich Japanese people but i highly doubt that the motors total-boost stock are beaten up crap motors.... that would be quite a shitty business to sell motors that dont work and get a bad reputation. I think that JDM's arent bad my friend has one in his ride all runs well.

Plus when i get my motor im swapping manifolds, removing balancers and replacing belts AND maybe gaskets.

Why do you remove the balancers? I just bought a 2nd gen tsi with a 1g swap. He kept 1g rods and 2g pistons and removed the balancers? What does that do and how well built is the motor now. Like how much hp can I put on her.

i cant tell if Osaka's prices are canadian or U.S. currency.... 1300$ for the tranny and longblock with turbo is a great deal, best one around here. Theres also "engine land", Japanspec and etc etc etc. I visited 5 places in montreal, varied fron 1400$ to 2100$

Decided in the end to just go and buy a used 6 bolt and rebuild her when i need to, but going to drop it in and see how long it lasts. I got my 6 bolt for 450$ plus driving costs.

I say rebuild, you can just trust it that much more.
They wont tell you the history of the previous car for a reason... They COULD do it if they had to.

And 2700$ canadian isht that much when you can basially car your car "brand new"
