ticking question

When my car is at idle there is a ticking sound coming from the head. When i accelerate the ticking goes away and when im idleing and rev it up about 2k and let it fall back to idle the sound goes away for a second but then it does it again...any suggestions on what this could be and how i could fix it? You're probably hearing the lifters ticking. DSMs are notorious for this. Search the forums for lifter tick and you'll get lots more info. Some people have had success with various types of oil or additives. I solved my lifter ticking problem for good by installing the "3G" lifters, also called 3G valve lash adjusters. They have enlarged oil ports and do not compress as easily as the original lifters. Now the only ticking I hear is the fuel injectors and I have to get up really close to hear them at all.
