OK so today was a very shitty day for me. My usual routine became a nightmare today, I don't drive my dsm much at all so I start her her up about 2-3 times a week just to keep everything flowing and keep my battery in good shape. Well today that took a very unusual turn that blew up my freshly built 7 bolt stroker:cry:. I jumped in, sat and grinned at the the beauty of my beast:) I stuck the key in the ol ignition to hear my motor rumble like usual and it did..... for about 5 seconds. Suddenly for no reason whatsoever it revved up completely all the way to redline and stayed there no matter what I did. I frantically shut the ignition off, nothing, pegged all the way to 9k,turned off the timer, nothing, still pegged, put my foot under accelerator pedal to see if it had gotten stuck somehow and it wasnt, yet still wouldn't unrev. So me in panic mode popped the hood yanked the battery cables off still stayed running, redlined, and after about 3 minutes of constant redline, BOOOOMMM, shot a cylinder and a rod out the side of the block:cry:. Now what in the hell could have caused this weird mishap to just rev for no reason and why it kept running after all the power was cut???

Wow dude, so sorry to hear about that man. I too am curious as to what happened.

Glad I have ECMlink launch control and no turbo timer..

well i am also sorry for this to happen and this also helps some people find what happened and also help people to know what can be done to aviod this mishap!! and i now am thinking about not getting a turbo timer just do to the fact that when u shut the key off it does run till whatever sset time u have for the timer hence now i am not gonna run a timer.. i will just sit in my GSX and let it cool for usually a good minute just like my other turboed mazda CX7 and know that its me shutting them down and not a control box

Could it be possible that the intake manifold had come loose? You say you had just rebuilt it. Could have forgotten to tighten by chance ? That's the only way I see your car reving to 9k and the Ecu not limit it since it saw you at 0% throttle :/ other then that the cruise control could have shorted on the cable control side and open it all the way up very unlikely tho. Also the Ecu would have limited that. Someone else think this ?

His reaction was priceless... hes like wha? OH SHIT! runs.. stuffs rag... DIE DIE DIE
I was watching his face through the whole video... I've had that happen with a little VW TDI motor, so I was curious as to how he'd react. Honestly, I laughed at the rag stuffing, but really I don't think I would have reacted any better. If you're standing outside, and there's no boards to choke it out with, what would you grab? His other option was probably his hand (uh.....no), or a big ol' handful of dirt. Out of those options, the rag probably did a lot less damage.

Cut the fuel line or cut the fuel pump wires if it is a electric fuel pump (I would imagine something that old would have a mechanical pump) or find another way to block off the air completely (CO2 fire extinguisher)

Another way, as he mentioned already, if it is a manual, engage the highest gear, apply all the braking you can muster and dump the clutch.

That video, I was waiting for his loose shirt to get caught in the front pulleys.

Just for the guys w/limited experience, this is not a literal action to take. You shouldn't cut the actual fuel line.

Glad it didn't happen while you were driving man...

Hey guys im back finally to update the thread, ive been real busy working out of town just got back from Roosevelt Utah day before yesterday which gave me a whole day yesterday to tear into her:rocks:. I started to take her apart starting with interccoler piping to remove the throttle body. I need to remove the cruise control wheel box thingy to remove the tb since my intake sits so low that it lines the tb and the cruise box with each other. After i unscrewed the 10mm bolts that hold the box to the firewall i noticed that when i tilted the box a little nut fell out of it:hmm:. I took the top casing off and it was the nut that holds the throttle cable in place:nono: im guessing the vibration must have worked it out ### it just sat in there leaving only the outside nut to hold the cable in place. I dont know if that had anything to do with it tho because the cable worked fine and just seemed a little loose, plus the tb plate is spring loaded so even if the cable was lose the spring would pull it close. So im back to square one with only guessing for now. I did manage to pull the motor out yesterday which took me several hours but hey i was by myself and i decided to leave the trans in this time:sneaky:

Here are some pics of the carnage sorry for the shitty quality:notgood:

disconnecting the battery didn't stop the motor from running because the alternator was supplying enough voltage to keep the car running . this is really a freak thing and hope it never happens to my car

Yea I know disconnecting the battery doesn't stop the motor but I figured if the turbo timer is what's keeping it going and somehow malfunctioned this would kill power to the timer but that wasn't the case. I do think this was a freak accident as I'm taking it all apart now and can't seem to find anything out of the ordinary except for chunks of my eagle rods and wisecos all over the oil pan.

Usually lowering the ebrake shuts off the TT. Damn that sucks though. Even more not knowing what caused it

Yup thats true you are 100% correct, my driveway has kind of a steep incline so that would have rolled it straight into my Avalanche and wouldve been worse, a blown dsm and a wrecked pickup LOL

Here's more pics of the carnage:

My wifes Yz250 sometimes revved up by itself when Id leave it idling next to a tree in the morning before a ride. Ive came out before with it pinned for several minutes with oil leaking out of the water housing. Thorttle closed, choke ON.

Damn ghosts, they always trying to blow my stuff up too.

On a further note, please let us know what you find.

Does this thread make anyone else want to sell their Turbo Timer just because?!? Im in.

I had the same sort of thing happen with an old yamaha blaster I had, reved all the way and wouldnt die, even pulled the plug wire off and kept going. But damn thtat sucks. Sorry to hear that.

That really stinks. My 2.3L FFWD Connection stroker has lasted almost 10 years and hundreds of passes in the 10's and 9's at up to 150mph. I would definitely go with another stroker for sure, they are worth the extra power.

Your wife rides a yz250, that's bad ass.

I call bs on this. A gas engine won't keep running once the ignition is cut.

2 stroke engines are a little different animal, they will rev from a crank case seal leak, manifold leak, or just from running lean.

Depends why the diesel is revving. If it's sucking air from somewhere like a head gasket, crank seal or manifold etc. then you just stand back and watch.. Like the 2 strokes.

And not bs I had the same thing happen to me on an lt250r twice and it was sucking air from the crank seal, pulled plug cap and didn't die, shut off the fuel and eventually died. Second time I was riding and just put it in 5th and held the brakes.
