Only in the sense that both are piggyback devices that alter what airflow measurements the ecu sees.

The original translator performed its corrections based on airflow. The SAFC makes its corrections based on engine speed and throttle position, although the translator can make rpm based adjustments as well when it's configured as such.

The original MAFT made its corrections based on airflow. The NEW MAFT GEN II is better than an SAFC and has a transalator in it for use with a GM MAF.
