should i be concerned if the color of my coolant is brownish?
i've always been accustomed to it being a neon greenish color.
i recently had the bshaft and tbelt/water pump done and the coolant was flushed and stuff. i'm not seeing any adverse effects on the temp gauge (at least the stock one). temp sits slightly above the halfway point on the gauge when car is fully warmed up and running.

followup question is if the reservoir level is low, would it be ok to mix neon green coolant i'm used to with the brownish liquid?

Well, from my understanding, anytime the coolant is a brownish tint that means oil is getting in somehow , someway, and 99% of the time it is coming from the headgasket, make sure that isn't the issue, hopefully its not but....

that is the issue...im 1123934% positive its the headgasket.

say it ain't so

any other adverse effects of a blown headgasket?
will i feel it driving?

the front cover was opened and closed about 5 times in the past month and the oil was removed each time (mystery leak. finally got repaired). i think the coolant was only changed once out of those times.

should i just get the coolant flushed and see if it continues to turn brown?

if ur headgasket was bad, you woulld have white smoke coming from the exhaust, unless it just went around the water jackets and leaks into the oil ports, which is very possible. guaranteed headgasket problem. i never saw an issue with oil in coolant, and it not resulting because of headgasket failure.

Drain all that brownish fluid out, flush it out and change it. Keep an eye on it the next few weeks. If it goes back to being that brownish color, you most likely have a problem.

Its prolly not a blown head gasket, most likely rust deposits in your cooling system making things dirty

HAHAHAHHAHA..u crack me up, that has to me the most rediculous thing i have EVER heard. EVER.

you think you know everything? Lots of cars I've worked on have brownish green cooling fluid, why? Because of deposits in the cooling system, rust and calcium turn bright green to brown.

ya, maybe if it has been sitting in the ocean for 16 years. it wouldnt be a brownish milky color either genius. i may not know everything, but im sure i know a lot more than you based on your first comment.

Alright dude whatever jump to conclusions and scare the shiat out of this guy, not the way we do things around here..... Newb

I personally think you should drain your coolant flush it, and top it with 30% antifreeze and the rest water, its Summer time.

If your really worried its a blown head gasket, simply do compression test, and if its indeed blown you will be looking at low compression, I think the 2g Turbo's are suppose to be around 180 psi stock.

Are you leaking and coolant? Is any coolant being lossed? Have you checked the color of your oil? Whats the oil level?

im a newb..haha...welll he could do a compression test, but whos to say the headgaskets junk around the cylinders? it could just be the water jackets... NEWB. and who said i was jumping to conclusions? he asked, i answered. simple. then theres ppl like u tryin to tell him it may not be, when in reality, its pretty much guaranteed to be. go ahead and drain it, flush it etc.. but i doubt it will help. just keep an eye on the coolant level.

It is ENTIRELY possible that it is deposits of rust. if the car has been low on coolant for a little while it will leave behind rust deposits. It doesn't take long for rust to form, like a day or so. Aslong as everthing is completly emersed in waer it won''t rust but as soon as it gets a little low the rust will form very quickly.

maybe it is, but rust WILL NOT make it a brownish milky color. i put a block in my car that sat for 4 years with the head off and i flushed it, and the coolant came out like a light creamy green, not a milky brownish color.

i'd like to not assume the worst, so i'll check a few things. thanks for the feedback.

my coolant reservoir level is low. i'm not sure what the level was at when it was flushed so i'm not sure if it's losing coolant. there are no leaks (oil or coolant) now that the oil leak was found and fixed. each time the oil was drained, which was about 5 times, none of the mechanics said anything about it being an odd color or having coolant in it.

i think i'm gonna go with the coolant flush and take it from there. i'll also take a sample of the coolant in there now and put it in a clear jar to see if it's oil and floating on top of the coolant.

if it is indeed oil in there, then chances are high that it's the headgasket correct?
