I currently have an act2600 clutch and an xact flywheel and since I put it in 8 months ago i have been having nothing but problems. the damn thing just does'nt disengauge consistantly and i have done nearly everything:slave cylinder extension, new slave, new master, and a SS clutch line. the other day i was coming home from the gym and there was a "Pop" undernieth my clutch foot, and when i release it i only had about 1/16 of the normal clutch pressure. the clutch basicaly was doing nothin. Please somebody help me out! anything.i bleed the clutch and only got a little air out of the line.but it did not solve the problem.

I had something similar to this just happen to me, also with an ACT 2600. I was pulling into a store and when I push in the clutch to downshift I hear/feel this pop and my clutch is stuck down and has absolutely no pressure. It turned out my throw out bearing fork snapped clean in half.

but my clutch is not stuck down, it still releases a little tiny bit when it is full down. i am almost ready to give up on this damn act2600 and go to somethin else.

Hmm I had a 2600 in for 4 years with heavy racing no problems, same with my new one. You don't by chance happen to have a lightened flywheel do you? And if so have you ever thought that was the problem? Also was the clutch installed correctly?

Man, what is the deal with ACT2600s? I just finished going through serious crap with one. Couldn't get it to disengage either, and I mean, not at all. Turns out the damn pressure plate was FLEXING!

So, I bought a Centerforce and it works absolutely perfect. I am currently in the process of trying to get ACT to give me a refund, but it hasn't been easy. I think I might use these posts as more fuel to my side.

Sorry, but in my opinion, quit trying to make it work by spending money on replacing slaves, masters, lines, etc. and just get a clutch that actually works. That's what I had to do.

The few posts you find to fuel your arguement doesn't change the thousands of happy dsm'ers or thousands of other people who use ACT clutches. I'm sure centerforce has unhappy customers too. 99% of all clutch malfunctions is the installers fault. I've had two different cars use act clutches without problems for several years, without spending extra money on slave/master cylinders.

I just got my Act 2100 and xact flywheel on, i have only been using it for a couple hundred miles now, but i am extremely happy with it.

See if you guys can figure this out?

I bought an ACT 2600 awhile back (dont remember exactly how long) when I overhauled my engine, put it all together and drove it 62 miles, whenever the clutch was disengaged it made this kind of toned down break noise( you know when your break pads are worn to nothing) however it drove fine but the noise bothered me. I figured it must be the TOB since the noise was only present with the thing disengaged. I bought another one and changed it. Same thing with the noise but now it wont disengage at all and I cant get it into gear. Im like WTF? So even though there are no leaks anywhere I bleed the system countless times to no avail. I think to myself it worked before what the hell happened? I put the old TOB back in with no change. Still wont disengage. After reading around I rip out my pedal assembly and weld it up. (by the way don't order from Taboo, never got my bushings and had to make my own) I put it all back together and there is no play at all, I mean none. Same exact F$cking thing. Not to be disheartened I replace both the master and slave cylinder with new ones and bleed the hell out of the system again.........dun dun dun .....nothing same thing as before, the sound and it wont disengage. I then pull off the tranny and shim the pivot ball with one then 2 washers. Same thing, no difference at all. I even lengthened the slave rod by a bunch of different lengths to no avail. I noticed also through all this that even with the slave extended the clutch fork moves the same amount as without it. You'd think air in the line right?, You have no idea how many different times and ways I've bled the damn system to no avail. So i said F%ck it and today I bought a stock clutch with lifetime warrantee and will be installing it this week. Seriously if you have any theories as to what could be happening here please share them with me no matter how bizzare they may be!

Oh my. I'm new to this forum since the other "major" forum went DOA. You guys must be new to discussions about the ACT 2600. I've built a few cars and here's what I know.

-The ACT 2600 is a hardcore racing clutch, unless you are a serious drag racer who NEED a very strong clutch the ACT isn't worth it.

- Why?? Like someone mentioned it was probably their stock pedal assembly. The ACT has such severe pedal pressure is loads up your stock (and quite puny) clutch linkage. I was told by some very serious racers to simply replace EVERYTHING in your clutch system if you needed an ACT 2600-that includes a new pedal assembly. Someone mentioned that isn't fun to replace. Take my word for it..its not. You also should replace the master & slave cylinder and get a stainless line too.

- So you have your ACT 2600, if your car has decent HP now you'll find out why its called the "parts breaker". The clutch grabs so well the drivetrain will go to the next weakest link. If you have a 3 bolt rear it will be there, if you have a 4 bolt then your center diff will be the next weak link.

- So in my mind about 90% of the guys who have ACT 2600's don't actually need them. If you need one and set it up perfectly, its a really great clutch.

- People always trash the Centerforce dual friction. Well I've installed that very clutch into 4 newer turbo cars and one older car. IF you break them in properly (most don't) and make sure you have the EXACT step height it works great. Very light pedal pressure and its grabs great. Its NOT an ACT 2600 tho, if you really beat a clutch it will slip. However I'd rather get a Centerforce too hot at the track and have it slip.....then break my center diff with an ACT 2600. When that Centerforce cools its will get me home.

- If you have to have an ACT, and your car isn't a dedicate drag racer and your not running in the 11's....then get an ACT 2100. The key with lighter clutches is to let them cool after every run.

Take my advice or flame me- I don't really care. Just remember I'm 37 and have been building fast cars for a LONG time. I see what works on freinds cars and get info that way, I don't just report things I hear on the internet.

What kind of warrenty does the act company have i have only put about 2-3 thousand miles on it. i am sick of dealing with this thing. :thumbdown

Why are you so sure it's the clutch??? A clutch doesn't "pop". I had a similar problem on my '91 GSX and it turned out the flimsy sheetmetal pedal bracket cracked and I couldn't disengage the clutch. There was no way to even see it way up under the dash. I found it when I pulled the assembly to install the bushings.

Take Baron's advice and beef up everything to use a 2600. The pedal assembly, pedal bushings, new master, new slave, SS line, remove the restrictor, new fork, shim the pivot ball, and be DAMMED SURE of the step height. A 2600 is not intended to be a stock replacement. Read this and all the other info Taboo has about clutch setup: http://www.taboospeedshop.com/ACT.htm

BTW, I've installed TWO Centerforce clutches that lasted 40K+ each and they worked great on my slightly modded daily driver. I stepped up to the 2600, along with all the supporting mods and it too works great even as a daily driver.

I hear you! I've got you beat by a few years and still no one wants to listen to anything I say! Perhaps there are just some things they don't want to hear! Aahhhhhh, kids!

Hey Baron, how did you get your hands on a RS Turbo AWD?
I see your from Allentown, so am i.

I need to update my sig, I sold that car two years ago. My current car is a '91 Talon AWD I bought as a shell and brought it back to life. Its my daily driver. Right now I'm TRYING to buy a '93 AWD Laser with a bad motor that is local here. However the guy simply won't answer e-mails. Bummer since I'm due for another project. I actually live in Alburtis btw. So its either another LT1 Camaro or I have two DSM's. Right now I'm leaning towards two DSM's. On the other board the kids couldn't get over the fact that I was 37 and into these cars. :dsm:

Haha nothing wrong with age. My father is 61 years old and still racing his Turbo Trans Ams, but he also helps me work on my car and race it. He used to own my brother's 96 spyder but sold it to him. The only thing is the old man thinks he can drive my car faster, I told him to stick to his automatic and let me shift, LOL, btw I also drive the TTA.
