Ok so today after I got home and realized a hissing sound coming from the engine bay. I realized it was the thermostat and the hose attached to it. But i also realized that the coolant in the resovoir tank was above max line.
Could it be a bad thermostat or water pump?

Also just the other day, when the car idles for a long time the temp gauge goes up to 3/4 and after i take off it goes back to 1/2.

well if the hose is bad its depressurizing the cooling system thereby decreasing the boiling point of the hopefully 50/50 coolant mix and everything is just expanding which could be why your overflow is overflowing, it doesnt hurt to replace your thermostat and also inexpensive, but if you wanted to test it take it boil a pot of water its best if ou have a (cooking)thermometer to try and get the water as close to the temp when your thermostat opens to determine if its opening at the right time. then toss it in and see if it opens. did you notice if your fans are coming on.

Yes i will replace both the hose and thermostat, and also the gasket see if it helps. Thanks anyways.

The fans do come on. Could my thermostat also cause my temp gauge to act the way it did?

Ok so i broke the 13mm bolt from the thermostat housing. Most of the bolt is sticking out but pliers wont work. I already sprayed it with wd-40 and nothing. How can i get it out??

sounds to me like your radiator might be half way cloged up. This will make it over heat sitting still and cool back down when you drive it.or it could be blowing out when you boost it because of blown head gasket. The broke bolt buy you some easyouts.

Use PB blaster and take you time!!!!!or this can turn into a nasty problem. Just a drop on the threads and let it soak for a couple of hrs. Do this for a day or so. Tap the bolt lightly to help the PB work. Use Vise Grips not pliers. If you have a propane torch try that (be careful)
