btw..i bet you go to the biltmore ALL the time, dont ya? :D

haha, ive taken so many people there I am so sick of that place. I am friends with the current owner's son and we mess around there all the time, ive actually spent the night in the actual house :shhh:

Wingless the ass looks so much wider on the car, and makes the whole car look lower to the ground, plus it looks kinda sleeper which I like, will go along nicely with my new tag [NON-TURBO]

I say leave it off. I did it to my 98 GSX a few years ago I loved it, I think that I gives the car a cleaner look. BUT at high speeds you will DEFINITELY feel the difference. :sneaky:

keep it off....and give me the wing LOL! or sell me the wing i guess, but honestly i think it looks pretty nice without it. i think cause not that many people go wingless, it stands out.

Anyone that had the low 3-piece removed... how much was it to fill all of the holes and have it repainted?
as been a long time since i filled those holes in but it isn't as much holes as you think. Extremely easy to take off and put back on. Just take it off and get an estimate from a local shop. Keep us updated.

Also, instead of starting a new thread thought i just get a quick answer now. (don't kill me) Should I take my wing off my car. Look at my pics before you answer. Have always wanted to go wingless but not sure how it'd look with the kit and widebody. :thumb:

personally, i think ur car flows better with the wing. i say keep it the way it is, just my opinion.

OK I have a 95 Talon with the low talon spoiler. I am in the middle of a doing the 97-99 body swap and was considering going wingless. I was wondering how I can mount the rear windshield wiper without the wing. I have seen a few pictures of wingless with the windshield wiper in the gallery but none with a stock bodykit that I found. I'd appreciate some others opinions and any help. Also I am considering doing the car in all red, all black or keeping it black top with red bottom.

The bad thing about if I go all black would be having to paint the door and hatch jams. Also that the engine bay would be a different color unless I pulled everything. I am on a fairly tight budget so the red would be a lot cheaper. Thanks for the input though.

mine came wingless :)

i'm not sure exactly what your asking... but if you want pics ask me and ill probably be able to get the to you

go all black. black cars are sexy :talon:

i'm really considering goin wingless on my 95 gsx. and i've read a few posts about goin wingless and have seen a couple people say that goin wingless makes a difference at higher speeds. so here are my questions

1. does the stock wing from a 95-96 do anything at higher or any speed anyway?

2. at what speed would there be a difference from not having the wing?

3. how do you fill in the holes left from removing the wing?

and i think that's about all the questions i have

even though the 96 wing is small, it is well designed and does have a difference not sure at what speed exactly, but probably over 45ish

to fill in the holes, sand down the paint to the metal, get some bondo from autozone or advance, fill the holes with bondo, sand again and snad down to 1500+ grit, primer then paint

some people say weld the holes shut, i dont think its neccessary if you just use something on the bottom to hold the bondo until it dries.

Now days the rear spoilers are more for looks. They really don't have an effect until you start reaching speeds of maybe 50+MPH while turning to help keep the back-end down. If you plan on doing some serious high speed (over 100MPH) and you want ever edge, go get one of those aluminum spoilers. They look cheesy but help more than the stock ones at HIGH speeds.

To cover the holes, you have 2 options. You can either take it to a body shop and they will bondo them in for you unless you know how to paint a car. If you do just bondo it up, only need to sand to maybe 600grit sandpaper, then spray primer and sand the primer to about 600, then do the base and clearcoat and if needed, sand the clear to 1500grit wetsanding of course. Or the really cheap way that i have seen some people do it, go get those black plastic clip things that are used to hold some of the interior panels in. You can get those at carquest or NAPA for a few bucks. And maybe paint them to match the color of your car with some spray paint or something.

Aerodynamic effects do not take place until speeds over 70mph. I.e. "drafting". But wait a second, how to bicycles draft at 30mph? Hey! Somethings wrong here!

I don't think it does much, 2G's look nice with no tail, though. :thumb:

Wings and spoilers are for downforce, not "drafting". Unless you take your car to a wind tunnel and test it, you'll never know at what speed your wing becomes aerodynamically effective to create downforce. Technically speaking, anytime there is airflow over the wing, it is effective, even at 20mph. But that does not mean that it creates downforce at 20mph.

i think what i will do is find out how to take my wing off, take it off and go cruising around for maybe about a week or so and see if i notice any differences and at what speeds i notice them at. if i can deal with it then i will leave it off, if i can't then i will put it back on

Unless you're planning on breaking any land speed records, I highly doubt having the wing on or off is going to do anything for you. Wings are mostly cosmetic as someone already mentioned, but at extremely high speeds, it will create some downforce.

I just took off my wing and had the bodyshop fill the holes while I was getting the whole car repainted two days ago. The body shop did a really good job. There is only one hole where you can still see the outline but only if you look really closely. Id take it to a body shop if your a perfectionist like me. I tried doing it myself with tape under then bondoing before I took it to the body shop but it didnt work too well. Its a pain in the ass and bondo is cancerous plus to do it correctly you should weld metal under the holes then fill with bondo. Ask a body shop to fiberglass it and it will keep the cost down. Fiberglassing is cheaper than welding. But yeah I notice NO difference in high speeds between having the spoiler and not. And it looks 20 times as cool. :thumb:

My advice would be to take the spoiler off yourself then have a body shop fiberglass and paint it. Shouldnt be too expensive. And hey, it worked for me. PM me if you want some pics or any more info.

Bondo to fill holes? :nono: To do the job properly and not half ass it you'll need to sand down around each hole on both sides. Cut small pieces of steel to fit the hole and weld in. Grind each one down and use a filler over. Sand the whole back lid and prime and paint. "bondo" will shink. Outlines will show. It can even crack and fall out. "bondo" is made to fill slight imperfections. Its not made to fill holes or create body lines. Fiberglassing could be a better option but I do believe will show up over time with temperature changes. I doubt wing removal will hurt any handling.

I saw a white 2g at shootout without a spoiler and it had those black plugs you can buy at autoparts stores for filling holes in the fire wall and whatnot. It didn't look TOO bad. I think I might take off the 96 talon spoiler on my car, and fill the wholes in with those things. Then when spring comes take off the damn eclipse spoiler (yes there are two spoilers on it, stupid people owned it before me) and have the wholes filled in properly and painted and whatnot. You'll barely be able to notice the plugs since my car is black.

If I was gonna fill the holes and didn't want it welded I fill it with a piece of matting and then put FG resin on it sand it and spread some bondo. FG is a lot more durable than bondo...
