My car: '98 GST with just Magnecores, CatBack ...
Problem: unconsistent slugishness
Ocurrence: Mostly while cruising, moderate speeds, slowly increasing speed ...
Symptoms: When pushing the gas pedal while driving around the car goes into this slugishness, like bogging. It doesn't happen when driving hard. The boost gage (analog) reading increases and the engine feels like straining but it is holded up. Feels like if I were pressing the brakes. The thing that drives you crazy is that you press the clutch, tap the gas to 'clear' the engine and keep going at the same speed and it will go away. Just like when old Carb cars were clogged ....

Checked: Fuel lines, filter, injectors, press regulator. Always runs on 93 Octane. Check different brands. All intake hoses tight, no apparent leaks,air filter, reset computer, clear memory codes, Checked spark plugs and cables ...

Help !!
 
I'm not sure what you are waiting to get out of this thread, but I will take another shot at your problem. Phantom knock is just that....phantom. It has numerous causes. I would check/replace in this order...
Boost leak check
Check timing
Lifters (replace)
Knock Sensor(replace)
Timing belt swap (all pullies and tensioners)

The t-belt swap is what finally cured my P-knock problem, though I still get the occasional spike revving at idle.....WOT is SWEET now, too.

Just curious...what do your A/F ratios look like?
 
Dane, I am seeing if I can get you the Poly mounts, I'll know on monday. But ether way, you'll have some avalible. For a decient price.

Just curious...what do your A/F ratios look like?

When you were having your tensioner issue, did you get knock from that? I have to get in touch with mt friend with the logger for my o2 voltage I'll post that asap. but i remember him saying that they were good. Thanks a lot for your advise

I do not know that the knock was "from that" (tensioner), but when we did the t-belt swap, most of the wierd stuff stopped.
 
Boys this is the exact same thing my car is doing finally found someone with the same ####in problem!!!!!!!!! We got it elimatied down to two or three things and yes knock is one of them! Its either knock or knock sensor is bad or the camadjusting sensor on the side of the head is a little sticky, or i guess that is about all that is left!!
 
I read on that DSM 1000 FAQ site that if you hear a clicking noise coming from your engine bay around the timing belt that you might have crankwalk. The only time I really hear a clicking noise is when I first start my car in the morning, it only happens for like a second then it goes away.

Not sure what, if anything, this has to do with the thread. Look up "lifter tick" and stop worrying.
 
Ok im pretty sure my timing is being pulled also and i have a NT 2.0L. My car is very slow. It has no response what so ever. Ill step on the gas all the way and sometimes it realized its floored and it revs and accelerates.But most of the time ill floor it and it goes no where!!! It slowly accelerates. Tried fuel injector cleaner....no dice. This is pissing me off!

FWIW...random knock through second (I think it is due to the ever changing temp right now, and not being able to pin down AFC settings) cost me a race to a less equipped FWD Laser. But hell, we all lose:cool:

I think in this case one can only hope its the temp changes. I hope i can limp this out a couple more weeks till I get some money, then Im going to do all the timing components, Its due soon anyways. I probly can't afford labor so me and some friends will probly take it on. Ive got vfaq and Haynes on my side so, I hope that will be good enough.
