first, thats polish as in "polock" not like polish a manifold.. second for those that haven't read my other new thread, i just picked up this 96 gsx. this is my first dsm and so far pretty therapeutic. i miss workin on stuff to go fast.i would never say i've bitten off more than i can chew, but someone really tortured this poor thing. my goal is to make a 300-350 hp dd that is reliable enough to take on vacations and such. i'm a big believer in putting in the work up from and maintaining from there, not hurry up and fix it 100 times. it was all together last night, so far i've managed to get the injector harness(yes i know there is more on it than that, but i thought that would be a good enough description)off, all of the intake(minus the manifold), the turbo and down pipe, and some other random stuff taken off. i'd like to go faster, but i'm labeling everything so i don't forget what plugs into where. also, just found some crimped and disconnected hoses in the front drivers side of the engine comp. it seems to be an aborted oil cooler? steel maybe 1/4" or 3/8" lines. tried getting a pic but i couldn't get a good one. anyone know if i'm right or not? also a grey 4 wire connector hanging by my p/s pump, wire colors are blue, blue black stripe, blue white stripe and black. couldn't see anything this might plug into nearby. i'll shut up now and post the pics i have. input is always very welcome..

what hacker? the ODO is reading 195k. i figured the best way to go is not even attempt to fix it(timing belt isn't turning at all) pull the motor and rebuild, at least then i know i'm building on a good foundation and not something that has ????? miles on it. and judging from the play on the turbo its A LOT of hard miles.

eh, i'll have the motor out tomorrow sometime. probably have most of the machine work done by next week. after that its gonna be waiting for the $$$ damn houses suck it all out of you in the winter. good news is, still getting a lot of double time and over time.. so hopefully i'll have a good idea of what i need to reach my goals and i can start ordering parts on the 15th. if all goes as planned(realistic shit happens planned, not want planned) i dont see it taking longer than mid to late feb to be done...

LOL, no feb this year... like in 2 months. i have no patience when there is something to be done. i have to be working on it or i'll go nuts. GF and i just split about 2 weeks ago, so this is exacly what i need. something to make me think... its at the top of my priority list, so i think a couple months should be plenty.

Ill be the first one to welcome you properly an not hate (which happens a lot on the site). Looks like a good project. I agree with a fresh rebuild if you cant get it to turn over. That would be were i start if i were you i would be trying to figure out the issue with trying to get it to turn over. If you wanna find out the condition of the engine do a compression test an see where your at before you rip it down, also check the oil for any metal. If your compression comes back closer to stock i would throw a turbo on it an rip it.

i buy my dsm and think i can done everything on 2 months never happen when u finsh engine u start on u tranny suspension and ble ble ble .........
this is the best toy for big boy for week months or years project :D

understandable, i spent 2 years on a 89t supra that i had planned for a couple months. of course back then, my car was in a barn, i was finishing concrete and my back always hurt, and i didnt work at a full service machine shop, i have full access to any cnc, manual machine we have. we do stuff from spray nozzles with a .007" tip, to one of the biggest VTL(vertical lathe) in the world. i could litterally pull a full size truck onto the table and make it into chips(26' table). engine department, fab shop, mechanic and weld dept. like i said, the work isn't the part i'm concerned about. its makin the $ for the parts. i'll rip down the tranny when i take my block in. plannin on a full polyurethane bushing kit and some coilovers.. wanted to have it done by the end of the month, but the budget won't support it. we'll see what happens.
and thanks for the good words untouchable, its nice to have someone on your side, although haters, please keep it coming... my motivation usually comes from proving people wrong :p

i spent 4 years for '90 300zx tt. loose money and have fun LOL

so, i've got all the hoses and wires disconnected to the motor and such. now i'm staring at it wondering, do i pull the tranny and everything and the same time? or can i just pull the motor? it seems like there are a couple bolts on the firewall side that would be pretty hard to get to to seperate the 2, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.. anyone have suggestions on which way to go here?

If you want to pull them both, do it at the same time.

I bought mine with more issues than I'd originally thought... though nothing too major. But over the last week I've been pouring hours into it and got it drivable just a couple days ago. It really came together over the last two days, working out in the cold and rain, with minimal sleep. I, too, draw motivation from naysayers.

So from the bottom of my heart, welcome to the forums, but you can't do it. :p

P.S. I originally read the thread title correctly. No idea why. Maybe because my Polish friend is visiting for the weekend.

well, after swearing all morning, going shooting and some pry bar action afterwards, she's out!

well, got it all apart. the teeth were stripped on the timing belt. unfortunately, ALL of the exhaust valves got into the piston, half of em are bent and some of the intake valves made some contact too. oh well, good excuse to beef up the valve train... obviously the pistons are going bye bye. but as far as the rods go, how much RELIABLE hp can you make and not worry about them? buddy of mine suggested some 1g rods if i want to run around 300-320 at the wheels without having to worry about them.. true? false? i really want to run dual valve springs to get some more rpm out of it... i know i dont need it to hit 300hp but i'm a fan of stuff turning fast... any weak links i should know about before i start looking into parts?

oh ya, and my car is a 96, but built in aug of '05... how do i tell if i got lucky and got an eprom?
