Well if the car is truely in excellent condition it blue books at $4,600...you can find a motor for about a grand if not less...hell there was a 6-bolt Laser around here for $600, and a Talon for $400.

Quite frankly I think you should just find a 6-bolt motor and drop her in there. I'm telling you a CLEAN talon is few and far between especially the turbocharged ones...Unless you are looking for AWD? :sneaky:

This one is AWD, thats why I'm wondering what its worth. Everything is in damn good condition except for the engine. I've really considered doing an engine, but I don't know much about them, so for me to get what looks like the best deal seems to be closer to $4,000 after installation and everything. That doesn't really have any warranty on it either. If you know of a particular place that has a 6-bolt and more information (i've already read up on vfaq) about buying a 6-bolt longblock and getting it to work in my car, please let me know. I just took these pics, too, it hasn't been washed for a couple weeks, but it looks great once cleaned. Anyways, thanks for the input. Since the clutch is the only problem right now, and not really a noticable one at that, I'm still looking to trade it on something else quickly, but if I could get 3-4 grand for it, that might be better. Then I could get anything I want private party instead of worrying about finding something at a dealer. Still, any good info or input on the 6-bolt swap is welcome...

dude dont sell your car, its worth much more than you think....
6g's + you can rebuild engine for 2000 and you are about 8g's
:thumb:

mirkoelek---i got over $4000 in my car but dealer wont give me that or anyone else.your car is worth what its worth and thats it.i can have a 1990 laser with $10,000 in it but dealer doesn't care about that.and my car has that money in it($4000) and its only worth $700 to the dealer.you got to deal with your loses sometimes.or hope you sell it to someone who whants a dsm.or to someone who doesn't have a clue.LOL

^ exactly...

there are 2 kinds of people that will buy your car
1) someone who knows how to swap the 6 bolt, which they won't give you much for the car
2) someone who doesn't know there motor is walking because you didn't tell them

my .02 cents

Well, the more I think about it, the better a new engine sounds, but where is everyone getting them for under $1500??? All the nice looking ones I can find are about $2600 and then I'd have to get it put in. www.overbore.com has some nice looking ones, but they don't really have much of a rep yet. I have heard of slowboy before and looked at some of their shortblocks, thinking that I could get one of those and just bolt it onto my head and intake and exhaust manifolds and call it good, but it looks like theres more to it than that. I'm having a tough time finding a coherent walkthrough of doing a 6-bolt block and 7-bolt everything else swap. Most info is for just putting in an entire 6-bolt engine. I think the 2g head and exhaust mani are supposed to be better anyways, so that would probably be good for me... Any ideas??

Try finding a 6 bolt motor in the classifieds or DsmTrader. The once you find one, find a local or someone who knows what there doing, help you out. I'm sure there are a few guys who would help throw in a 6 bolt as long as your supplying the beer.

if it was me and it is LOL...id go to a junk yard and get a motor any 1990-1994 will work just fine, there all(6bolt)theres a place here that sells 4 cylinder motors for $150 oh yeah but you have to pull the parts your self but still just go to your local junk yard and get the whole motor.it shouldn't be much more than $300 for you.i would think

How likely is it that this junkyard motor is good? I don't have money or time to be picking through junkyard motors one after another to find one that works. Again, I don't know much about engines, so I won't know how to tell if its good until its installed in my car. A buddy of mine did this with his 1G and he's had all sorts of problems with it so far. He thought he got a great deal, but he's been working on the car for about 3 months and it barely runs...

ok here is my take based on my own personal experience;

Slowboy took 2.5 MONTHS to send my 6bolt shortblock aftertelling me no more than 3 weeks... andthen sent it to the wrong location (my house) instead of to the shop. they also did not remove some parts that I did not need for my 2ghead 1g block swap like the tsat housing etc. That does not of course include all the sundries to get it in there and right, or head work or any of the other upgrades you might as well do like DP etcetc.

TO be honest since you have a 95 head, you should jsut go full 1g engine wise... hte 95 head requires work to get it "1g'd" b/c of teh ccam sensor location as compared to the 2gb head which is set up like the 1g head. Getteh 1g oil/water mount and reuse the existing sandwich for the easiest and cheapest solution to that issue.

You will need the black top cas unless you have dsm link.

You need a lot more stuff... like the oil pan new oil pump new front cover and gears... you will find you need new motormounts mostlikely... Ihave 106 k mostly highway little actual racing and mine were shot... all in all I think I have spent about 5k on psrts with several upgrades included.

Get a full 1g takeout motor adn then you will have 90% of the hard parts you need for a lot less than buying them all new from the stealership or JNZ or Slowboy.

OR get the short block and a reman 97 up 2g head (still needs the head bolt holes bored out 1mm over to fit) and all the 1g timing sundries, 6 bolt flywheel clutch etc etc. but it will cost you more.

their are some junk yards that have motors lined up ready to go with warranty.not much of one but still if your gonna do a 6bolt swap might as well rebiuld it anyway.i got mine complete rebiuld + port ,polish and shave head and 3 angel valve job,arp bolts, balance shaft removed for $1700

alright i have the same problem. i have crankwalk too and im going to go pick up this 6 bolt motor and tranny for 600 and an extra 300 for a 16g turbo tomorrow prolly but what parts am i going to need to make this swap successful? please help me out too guys. thanks. oh yeah man you should keep your dsm, its a ####in awd car, i would buy that car off you even with the crankwalk for 3000 just cause its an awd. you eat up some many cars with that dsm especially with a 6 bolt.

ok im gonna screw these links up bad but ill give it a shot, i gotta sell my car, have no idea what i can get out of it. its a 98 gst 120k miles, power sun roof andd all that good stuff but it needs paint and fiberglass work, any body man would be set with this car. it runs perfect.
how much should i ask for it??

or if that didnt work you can always go to my gallery.

if i had seen this only a week earlier i would buy for 32, i just spent 4000 on a rs :( its decent but not worth the 4 after a week of pushing it.

you can ask for as much as everyone else is asking if you go to good classified car ads..but it doesnt mean you'll get it. i doubt many of them do. you have a great car but in the crazy world we live in these days people base more value on how the car looks than how it actually runs. being a 98 GST you can probably stretch for $4000-5000 if you get a kid who wants to fast and furious it out. your car is right up their alley. but now you have a limited market. either way, thats who you'll be after with the kit and the primer.

old ladies or old guys looking for a runabout eclipse doesn't want the kit and a primered car. they'd rather pay more of a primium that deal with that. a fast and furious kid would LOVE your car but theyre usually broke or have at the very least get financed by the Bank of Maturnal Obligation (and they won't like the look of your car). That or a body guy who can paint it for the cost of material and make a killing on resale.

your best bet if you leave it like that would be price it around $4000-$5000 OBO and wait for the kid with the cash (or body guy). but be prepared for a wait. you'll probably be waiting for a good while. or grab your stock bumpers (or pick up some stock ones) throw a $350 macco job on it and sell it for $5000-$6500 to a bigger audience.

(oh yeah..and all that IF the car is in otherwise EXCELLENT condition)

As I've said a zillion times before, check the retail at www.kbb.com
Knock a couple hundred off that for the paint, and go from there with any mods on it whether you're turning it back to stock or selling as-is.

If I were buying a 2g, even if it were a GST (yuck) 3200 is a great deal paint or not. Most (in my area) are close to the GSX and TSi AWDs around 5.

EDIT: just looked at the pictures, what the hell did you do to that poor car?

OK, I'm planning on selling my dsm in the very near future. I'm going to ask 11k-12k for it in autotrader, do you think that's a reasonable price? Here's what I got.........

-4.5" Perf. filter w/charge pipe
-Apexi N1 DP and exhaust
-GReddy LG FIC with all upper and lower piping
-GReddy type-S & type-RS BOV's (RS on right now)
-ARP head studs
-TIAL 38mm. watsgate
-Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
-SAFC-II
-GReddy Profec TYPE-S electronic boost controller
-GReddy turbo timer
-8.5mm Magnacore wires
-Denso iridium spark plugs
-.020 Bore
-Weisco forged aluminum pistons and rings
-1mm. oversized valve cut
-Ferrea Compitition Plus 1mm. O/S intake valves
-Ferrea Compitition Plus 1mm. O/S exhaust valves
-Ported & Polished head, Bowled openings
-All new gaskets
-All new belts
-Limited Slip Diff.
-ACT heavy duty clutch kit
-Broadway 300mm. Rear view mirror
-Dual Dash Cluster Gauge Pod
-7-Color Boost Gauge
-7-Color Oil Pressure Gauge
-Drift Style Fiberglass Bodykit (also have stock bumpers w/matching paint)

The engine is not even past the break-in period yet the mileage is so low on it right now, it's literraly at ZERO miles on this new motor and many new tranny parts. This car could basically be considered rolling off the showroom floor again mechanical wise.

I think I'm going to ask $12,000 for it and see what calls I get on it. What do you guys think i'ts worth? Sorry, so long but, i've just put a lot of time and money into this thing.
