well... i don't think anyone on here can guess about how fast it is. there are too many variables and unknowns. if you're close, go look at it; if it's awd, i'd buy it.
it looks like it has some cash into it. i won't get into the list of obvious mods... but i will say that any numbskull should be able to run 13s with it. it could be much faster, but, like i stated before, there are too many unknowns.

So I am thinking about buying a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse GS non turbo 5 speed for daily driving
so the saying is that you get what you pay for and for a thousand dollars i don't think i did too bad but I noticed a couple of things wrong with it. The car itself has 109K

Front break rotars need replacing

The axle coming from the transmission to the wheel, the boots look like they have a small crack, looks like it just started.

Timing belt needs replacing

It seems like First gear syncro is going out however if i shift to second then to first it doesn't grind. is this serious?

Stereo was ripped out so i need to find another dash, i should be able to find one in the junk yard from one with a 1.8L with out any problem right? Is the junk yard full of these

dent in the hood but its not that serious, can still drive with it

Some good things

Shocks and springs are good

New tires

Had one side of the axle replaced so the boots are new on that side

engine is clean

Alternator was replaced with 2 year warenty

I don't know if this is a good deal because the car is $1000
I could buy it and replace the stuff myself and fix it up. Is it worth it?
Just looking for a second opinion and i can answer anymore questions about the car if it will help with this answer

My choice is a 1993 mitsubishi eclipse that needs some fixing up VS 1995 Grand Prix that my parents fell in love with that i guess dosn't need that is pretty reliable.

What do people thing?

Decent deal but is it a 1.8L ? if so it doesn't have any power and you could do better. just my opinion. i was able to find a 90 plymouth laser RS-T for 500 just needing brakes and a new windshield. look around there is always something good for sale.

If you are looking for a daily driver I personally don't think mitsubishi is the way to go, I'd go with either a Honda or Toyota. Chevy if you are into american cars.

The transmission is what I'd be worried about, if the syncros are going out I wouldn't get it do you really want to pay another $1000 for a new tranny if it goes out? Although it may just be the clutch too.

I paid a G for my GST and it had 199,455 on the odometer I love it. The amount of crap that its put me through I wouldnt trade for the world. Even if I suddenly won the lottery I still would not get rid of it. It would get pimped. The tranny sounds like you need to change the fluid before deciding against it. If it is a 1.8, not a problem, yes its a wus BUT, I just recently found out that the Hyundi Elanatra has a 4g63 N/T heart. (the N/T eclipse motor) Go to the junk yard and pick up a core and you got yourself a project. Now that I think about it, screw the 93 1gb model with that wimp motor you'll get beat by girls in Hondas all day. (its embarasing trust me) If you want an Eclipse keep looking, youd be suprised at how many deals there are.

a DSM is perfectly FINE for a daily driver ( if you leave it alone )
its no better or worse then a honda (or any other car)

but a 1.8 ?
I can get over the NT part... but a 1.8L ?
Id keep looking.

Just to tell you it is the 2.0L thats looks like it is in really good condition. I am not worried about the motor at all, later in the spring it would be a good project!
I heard the 1.8L is a horrid motor
I was just talking about if i need interior parts
This thing has all the options exept the moon roof and everything works, exept the sterio is missing which that void can easily be filled.

How hard would it be to fix the transmission?
I have rebuilt TH350 before which is an automatic transmission but still complex
I am guessing it isn't bad enough to fix right a way and could wait for spring where i could do some work on it.

You dont have to re-build that tranny for a while. Change the fluid and drive. I would recamend some good fluid though. Remember you get what you pay for. It is the 2.0 huh? Even better. finatly worth it. IMHO I like the Eclipseturbo not it still is good power you just gotta know how to tune it. Interior parts are easy. Alot of kids that pick up eclipses and dont know how to either drive or maintain them end up killing them so you can usually find all the parts and pieces at the yard. Good luck!
mike :dsm: I just hit a button and cant get this thing to spell right sorry for the messed up wording But you get the idea.

I bought my 93 2.0 n/t for $500, the guy was asking $900

It had just had the timing belt done, but it needed struts, tie rods, a flex pipe, and some misc stuff to get it to pass emissions. That all cost me about another $600

I'd say look around a little more.

edit: I just read the part where you said you could fix the stuff yourself. If you can do that, and it's a 2.0, then it might be worth it. That stuff's all good bargaining material. I bet you could knock it down quite a bit below $1000.

Junkyard tranny... 50-150$... where do you get 1000$ from?

yeah, i'd say $300 sounds right for a JY tranny

overall, i still think you found a decent deal $1k. not the best, but still reasonable. if you do the work yourself on the axle & rotors & timing belt, you won't spend much really (axle $75, belts $85, can the rotors just be turned??). and as long as you don't need it to look perfect, leave the dent as long as it isn't interfering your drivability.

my opinion: Sounds OK to me.

I got my 93 off of a guy I know who owns a dealership... he rebuilt the engine for me, rebuilt the tranny, and detailed it and cleaned it up, it needed a bit of work, but his guys did it and did it well.... I only paid 2000 for it, (1300 in labor for their fixings)

how much would a 1st gen. be with out a tranny and like a couple of dents maybe 3 not real bad. and interior is nice i mean clean look like new but dirty with trash....and one more question is it better to rebuild the tranny or get a brand new one...have no idea if its awd or fwd ..but give me a good offer to ask the man ..oh yea its been sittin awhile...

give me a price please i need to tell the dude he said give him a price and he will think about ... so someone plez send a price

I've got a 1991 Talon AWD 5-spd. It's black cherry with grey cloth interior, 108K miles, Evo III 16G turbo, SAFC, DSR 550 injectors, Walbro 255, Greddy Type S, Dejon UIP, Autometer boost and egt gauges, and a few other parts I'm forgetting. I'm putting a rebuilt head on it this weekend and putting in all new gaskets and seals. Business has slowed for the winter and I might just sell it. What do you guys think it's worth? I looked all over autotrader and they ranged all over from like $2K to $7K. I don't want to screw anyone over, but most of all I don't want to screw myself. The blue books and NADA guides screw DSMs!

If it's in great running condition and the body is great, it's worth close to $4k to me, maybe $3500, just minus off whatever is wrong with it.

This is NOT a for sale ad, I just want to get opinions on what a 1g is worth. I see a large variation of value on the trader, and don't ever really see 1g's in the local newspapers. I'm trying to sell my car and haven't got any replies except from the asshats running the scam overseas. What is a nice 1g worth? I guess I'm over-estimating thier value. It just seemed to me that the cars were getting harder to find, and people obviously want them, hence fine websites like this. For reference only, here is some of the article that I'm running. What is a fair price for 1g's in general? I've seen 1g shells selling for $1500, how can a running, driving car not be worth at least $1000 more? Obviously with awd and fwd being a little different.

Considering a running, driving, mobile, heathly dsm I was thinking:

1g awd 5spd for around $3000-4000 (automatic -$500 or so)
1g fwd turbo 5 spd for around $2000-3000 (automatic -$500 or so)
1g non turbo for $750-1500

1990 Tsi fwd 5spd. New front brakes, freshly changed timing belt (less than 1000 miles), idlers, pulleys, new valve cover gaskets, and cam seals. Car has nearly perfect compression 153-155 across ALL cylinders. Very good paint, with some minor body damage. COMPLETELY stock, never been modified. Interior is ok, with some stains and a few cigarette burns in the tan cloth, headliner is coming down. 5 spd, shifts well in all gears, new synthetic fluid, EXCEPT 3rd. The sycros are wore and it must be put into 3rd gently. Will go into 3rd fairly easily when car is warm. Car has never seen over stock boost and pulls pretty hard. Refinished stock 1G swirl rims wrapped in Kumho All Season tires with about 25-40% tread left. Sunroof, working air conditioning. I bought this car from a guy that had had the car vandalized. I took the time to put the car back together replacing pretty much everything that needed replacing, including:

Only issue with the car is that the throttle body is leaking out of the throttle shaft seals and it idles rough. Have pressure tested the intake and located the leak, haven't got around to fixing it.

WHAT IS SOMETHING LIKE THIS WORTH? :dsm: :talon: :laser: in general???

How many miles are on it? Any rebuilds done?

You fix the throttle body leak and were in my area, I'd only offer $2,000.

Well, in my particular car's case the odometer reads 135,000 but a carfax shows that to be inaccurate for some unknown reason. No rebuilds that I am aware of.

When a car has an apparently healthy 6 bolt, isn't it worth good money?

Its more about what someone is willing to pay than what KBB says, esp w/our cars. A lot of people wont offer more than 2500 but there are some fanatics out there paying high prices for dsms.

$2500 for a awd 5spd? My 1g awd 5spd has 230,000 miles on it, I'd NEVER sell it, but if I ever thought of it I would sell it for more than $2500. But, that's just me, I guess I'm one of the fanatics.

prices are a little inflated right now, especially on ebay. i dont even bother looking on ebay because crazy retards pay $3000+ for a stock 180,000 mi 15 year old car and in need of a timing belt :thumbdown

i dont think i would pay more than 2000 for a running stock 1ga awd 5speed. the only exception would be if i start looking for something with a PERFECT paint job and no dents or anything like that but right now i dont care about that.
