A dealership a few weeks ago said they would only give me $2,000. I have about 140,000 on the car and about 65,000 on the engine. I'me looking to sell mine for about $5,500 which is a BIG loss considering the money I put into it.

I think its all about location!

my brother sold his 95 TSi AWD with 39,000 original miles on it for almost 10,000.

If the cars mint, and theres a serious crazy buyer out there, theyll bite eventually. i told him his car was worth 7 at most, and some crazy kid came out and paid a rediculous price on it.

Took some long months though.

My friends sister's b/f (long i know) had a 95 Talon ESi that he just sold for 11k considering it was 3k for shipping to europe. He had a nice stereo system, airbags, and a new paintjob/bodykit. You just have to find the right people.

My car is probably worth 4kish. I wouldn't sell it for that much though. Just got a new paintjob and a cf hood. Looks way f*cking pimp. Get compliments about everyday I drive it. I think I would have a hard time selling it for 6k.

HAHA, im guessing the buyer paid for it with cashiers check?

I dont want to jump to any conclusions, maybe im just paranoide, but sounds like somone got scammed. :thumbdown

I wouldnt sell my car for any less then 7,500. The book value is only like 2,500 but my car is worth much more then that to me. There is nothing i could spend 2,500 that would even come close to replacing my car.

***rubs hands together in evil muahahahaha type gesture***

See, and this is where I disagree w/ many on our cars it seems. W/ the mods you have and as clean as that car is, as long as the motor is still strong I see no reason why your car wouldn't be worth every bit of right at 6k!! That's one sharp dsm :thumb:

And think, my car is 1/2 as nice as yours. I'm actually checking the compression this w/e. I haven't done it since I bought it. It runs strong, I'm just curious.

Ryan, thanks for the compliment. Your car's very nice. You've taken very good care of it. :thumb:

You all are dillusional if you think you'll get even a penny over blue book value for your cars. These are not Supras people. Sure, you can say your car is worth 20k to you, but no buyer is going to pay 20k for a 2k car. Let's try to be somewhat realistic here people because in reality, it's unlikely that you'll even get blue book value for your car, regardless of whether or not it has 10k or more in modifications.

Speak for yourself. I have seen modified cars go for big dollars if marketed right and sold during the right time. I could get 25k for my car selling it as is right now in Canadian dollars of course, but thats 16-17k U.S. dollars.

A buddy sold his Talon with pretty well the same setup as my car no stereo equipment at all, totally removed for 26k and it took him about 2 months to get rid of it.

If you can't get good money for your car with modifications your either no good at selling or are not marketing your car properly. Anybody will pay any price for anything, you just have to connect those two buyers. Sales of anything is like that and I'm a salesman. Hell I ship ice to Alaska.

For example. I bought my 95 GTI VR6 for 13.5 and sold it for 13.9 2 1/2 years later after putting in maybe 2 grand into the car that I sold it with. I had two guys biddin on the car and bring the price up. My 86 GTI I bought for 7k took a set of 1k wheels of it and sold it a year later for 7k. It's all about knowing your buyer.

Usually spending money on bodykits and accessories wont add much at all to your car and I think many people who say "car value wont increase w/ mods" are thinking of their buddies lambo-doored I/H/E canary-yellow civic he had 8 grand into and got almost nothing back.

Now take a 12 second street AWD turbo car like DSMjim's that looks great and has TIMESLIPS to back it up. That will get much higher amounts to the right buyer. I'm sure he could get 15 grand and up for a car like his.

My point is that you won't get any mod money back if you have just tint, suspension, intake, filter, rice BOV, and exhaust on your GSX. However if you have a beautiful clean car AND you make it run a great time, that will attract some buyers who want that perfect package of looks and performance. Besides performance never goes out of style. However I think it would be much harder to get a high amount for a 1g unless it has extensive performance mods or a person who really loves that bodystyle. It takes a brave man to spend over 5 grand on a 15 year old car. Just my take on it, anybody get what i'm saying or agree?

Some people just shouldn't speak. Tell ya what, set up a poll and see who thinks my car is worth BOOK or LESS (there are a NUMBER of cars on here you could also insert in place of mine). I think you may be surprised. Are you gonna get back all of what you put into one these. 99.9% of the time, no. Of course not. It's the price you pay. Does that mean no matter what you've got into your car it's only worth book value or less. Excuse me, but FUC* NO it doesn't. It in no way means you won't be able to get well over "kbb". You don't want to pay it, FINE. Go drop your own $30k into one and best of luck to ya. Some might find it nice to not have to start from square one w/ every car they pick up. Personally I've done both. My last one I did almost everything to w/ my own money ($12k+). It was an incredible "test bed". I learned a shi*load w/ that car (oh, and btw, fyi it was a 91 Talon AWD and I got $7500 for it when I let her go!). This one I happened to pick up w/ a good bit of what it has already done. My plan, take it to the next level (I've already put over $3k+ into it in the last 6mo). Damn, you know what, whatever, why am I bothering even telling you this...

So i get home from work the other day and i find this note on my door from my neighbor saying they know some one who is selling a talon cheap the frame is shot but they thought i might be able to use it for parts. my first thought was it would be waste of time to check it because thje chanes of it being the same generation and model as mine were nill but i did and of course i was wrong. there sat a 1g tsi just mine. so i ask should i get this car for parts. hte motor night be nice to have to rebuild while i drive it and the trans in the donor was supposedly rebuild recently. what do you guys think? plus its gut an all black interior. :thumb: or :thumbdown

If the price is right, go for it. It's always nice to have spare parts for those "Learning" moments when you mess something up :p

I'm selling the car, I just wanted to how much you guys think I could get for it. Im going to put it in the paper for $7500...too much?....too little?

i have a 95 gst green in color and a rebuilt engine and head. the body has 106,xxx on it but is in exelent shape exept for a little shock tower rust just starting. engine is ready to go in to the car so it has 0 miles on it. the car is a 5 spd and has grey interior thats almost flawless, has infinity package with factory 6 disc changer. i found a gsx around here thats for sale from a friend and i want to sell my car to make a down payment on it. also do how much do you think the gsx is worth? red, grey leather,55k on the clock, 5spd, 18" rims, euro tail lights , lowered 1.5". thanks alot, steve

Yes, just like the empty orange juice contianer I tossed this morning was worth $40 :thumbdown

I've been looking for a second car now for a while, and man, 80% of the sellers out there are smoking crack.

Yea the minimum bid is 7k? How fast do you think the 1/4 mile is on this? best guess?
